[edit] Old Gormley

Gormley is a Hamlet located in southern Ontario. It was divided into two parts due to the construction of Highway 404. The portion of Gormley situated within Richmond Hill's political boundaries will soon be designated a "Heritage Community."

The old community of Gormley is situated west of the Highway 404 on Stouffville Road in Richmond Hill. It was named after James Gormley, a postmaster. Gormley Road East, on the south side of Stouffville Road, leads to Gormley Court and a dead-end at the railroad tracks. On the other side of the tracks, accessible by Leslie Street, is Gormley Road West. The community used to have a significant railroad station. Many of the houses are approximately 100 years old. The community celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005.

In addition to 'Old Gormley', there is the remainder of Gormley which is located to the immediate east of Highway 404 and Stouffville Road in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Gormley East borders to the north of 19th Avenue, east of the 404, west of Warden Ave. and south of Bethesda Sideroad. It includes a Post Office, two gas stations and a plaza with a variety store and the restaurant Famous Sam's, which is located at the north-east corner of Woodbine Avenue and Stouffville Road.

A golf course formerly known as Gormley Greens is now called Station Creek, which is situated north of Stouffville Road off Woodbine Avenue.
