Gordon Hollingshead

Gordon Hollingshead (b. January 8, 1892 in Garfield, New Jersey - d. July 7, 1952 in Balboa, California) was an American movie producer, associate producer and assistant director. He is the father of child actresses Ebba Mona and Tula Belle.
Hollingshead began his career as an assistant director, with his first work being the 1916 film The Shrine Girl, in which he also had an acting role. He would introduce both his daughters to acting when they were children, but neither would remain involved in acting beyond a few films. Through the silent film era Hollingshead assisted in the direction of thirteen films, and continued as an assistant director until 1934.
He produced his first film, Morocco Nights, in 1934. This started him on the path of producing, which would lead to enormous success. From 1934 to 1953 Hollingshead produced 174 films an film shorts. He would receive sixteen Oscar nominations, and would win six Oscars. He was residing in Balboa, California at the time of his death on July 7th, 1952. Three of his short film productions were released in 1953 following his death.
