Gordon Burns (born 10 June 1942 in Belfast) is a British journalist and television presenter who became known as the host of Granada TV's popular game show The Krypton Factor. Since 1997, he has been the anchorman for BBC North West Tonight, the regional news programme in North West England, currently co-hosting with Ranvir Singh.[1]

Gordon Burns lived in Lisburn up to the age of five, and returned from London,[2] where his father had worked as the editor of Hansard. He was educated at Dulwich College, a famous boys' independent school in South London, then at 13, attended Campbell College, a grammar school in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He worked at the Belfast Telegraph and presented the local news on Ulster Television.

Burns' status as a national celebrity began with his association of ITV's popular game show The Krypton Factor which he presented for eighteen years from 1977 to 1995.[3]

He was the presenter of Password for Ulster Television, one of their few programmes shown throughout the ITV network. He also hosted a segment in some series of LWT's Surprise, Surprise.

Since 1997, most weekdays Burns has presented North West Tonight, its shorter lunchtime equivalent, North West Today, and also the 3 minute mid-afternoon bulletin. He also provides several introductory snippets on the Radcliffe and Maconie show on BBC Radio 2.

Burns is known to be a Liverpool Football Club season ticket holder,[4] but was asked to remain neutral while on North West Tonight and consequently makes positive comments about arch-rivals Manchester United while presenting the programme. Burns also enjoys watching Lancashire County Cricket Club.[5]
