Gordon Bess

Gordon Bess (1929 - November 24, 1989) is an American cartoonist, best known for the comic strip Redeye.

Gordon Bess was born in 1929 in Richfield, Utah.[1] He started his career as a magazine cartoonist. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1947 and worked for their Leatherneck magazine from 1954 until 1957, when he left the Corps. He then worked as an art director for a greeting card company in Cincinnati, Ohio and made cartoons for civilian magazines in his spare time. He became a fulltime cartoonist in 1967 when King Features Syndicate started distributing his comic strip Redeye, and moved to Boise, Idaho. He continued writing and drawing the comic until 1988, when he fell ill. He died in November of the following year.
