Goraya is a town and a Nagar Panchayat in Jalandhar district in the Indian state of Punjab.

As of 2001 India census,[1] Goraya had a population of 15,138. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Goraya has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 70%. In Goraya, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. The name of the city was discovered when 6th Guru of Sikhs Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji were passing threw this area after having rest at Gurudwara Sukhchenena Sahib at Phagwara. When Guru Sahib came to this area everyone started saying "Guru Aaya Guru Aaya" meaning Guru came, at that time this town was unnamed and the name was given to it when all started saying "Guru Aaya" so it became Goraya. The railway crossing in the city makes the heaviest traffic jam in the state. This city is developed by people of different ares around and no one basically and originally belongs to this city. There are multicultural poeple living in the city and city is gradually developing.
The city is famous for TOKA manufacturers and is corporate office for GNA Group ( leading auto gears and transmissions component manufacturers). Bhushan Power and Steel is major supplier to them.
