[edit] Playing career

Goran Pandev began his footballing career in the Belasica's youth football school. In his youth he was recruited by Italian club Internazionale, who loaned him to Spezia Calcio and A.C. Ancona, where he made his Serie A debut on 2 November 2003 against A.C. Siena. In January 2004, he moved to S.S. Lazio but remain loaned at Ancona until summer 2004. (as part of a transfer that saw Dejan Stanković move from Lazio to Inter Milan)[1] In summer 2005, another half of his rights was transferred to Udinese Calcio from Inter as part of the deal of David Pizarro.[2] He started the 2005 season by scoring the only goal in the second match, giving Lazio a win over F.C. Messina Peloro.

Pandev is only the second Macedonian to play in Serie A after Darko Pančev. His favoured position is as a supporting striker, playing behind Tommaso Rocchi. Since Srecko Katanec became the head coach of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYR Macedonia)[3][4] , Pandev has been given a free role which means he can play anywhere across the midfield in an advanced position.
