GOPALGANJ, a beauty land of tremendous historical background and magnificent culture .An ancient state of "Mallyas " known for their bravery and love for civil liberty becomes the frontlet of Gopalganj . In Pre- historic periods , Gopalganj was apart of kingdom of Nepal - the Southern boundary ,up to the bank of " Saryu" river which bounds Siwan district on South of it . Siwan means the boundary - the Southern boundary of Nepal Kingdom .

Gopalganj - a land of tragic victims which has been always ruined by the Gandak River ,known as " Narayani" . he dimension of Gandak is very vast extending from the Tarai belt of Nepal to the Northern bank of " Saryu" river . It is said that in Pre- Historic period Gandak used to flow at Maharajganj - a Sub -Divisional town of Siwan 45 Kms from Gopalganj in South . From there ,it started cutting across all the villages and every thing which came in the way ,engulfing those in its belly and tried to reach to its place of origin in Himalayas . But , probably it was not acceptable for Himalaya to take her back in his lap. So, it has started moving away from its origin to Maharajganj areas like a Vega bound lass, again repeating the Saga of destructions . But, leaving behind some cultivable mud and sand for remainders to survive and thrive. Unless ,this devastating river is bounded firmly on both the sides . Its bed is deepened and township is developed on both embankments , the overall development of Gopalganj .
