Gopher Grocery, Inc. is an online-based grocery store in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. It is similar to Webvan, but is focused more locally in the Twin Cities metro area. Its delivery coverage started with 2 zip codes (55414 and 55455)[1] but has now expanded to a total of 13 zip code areas throughout the Minneapolis and Saint. Paul metro area.
Gopher Grocery was founded in February 2006, after the dot-com bubble, and well after the demise of Webvan. Originally, Gopher Grocery delivered within an hour of ordering,[1] but this model was abandoned in favor of next-day deliveries. Gopher Grocery delivers groceries directly to consumer, instead of leaving grocery bins on porches and lobbies. This feature is a strong point for people living with disabilities.
Gopher Grocery has been particularly popular with college students around the University of Minnesota area, due to marketing strategies directed at that demographic, as well as the lack of grocery stores in the nearby area.[2] It competes with 2 other online grocery-delivery services, namely SimonDelivers and Lunds.
