As of 1991 Bangladesh census^[1], Gopalganj Sadar has a population of 291409. Males constitute are 50.73% of the population, and females 49.27%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 141978. Gopalganj Sadar has an average literacy rate of 44.7% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[2]
