Questionable block on UAA

I see you've recently made several username blocks. Most of them were good, but I don't think your block of User:P3t3rp33nw3ntzxc0r3 was supported by the username policy, especially in light of this part:

If your username or your signature is unnecessarily confusing, editors may request that you change it. However, confusing usernames are unlike the disallowed usernames above because a confusing username cannot be so inappropriate on its own that it requires an immediate block without at least an attempt at substantive discussion.

Also, the user had not made any contributions, so there was no way to establish if he was editing in good faith or not; using UAA is discouraged in that situation. People who name themselves in "l33t" are not an immediate threat to Wikipedia. There were better ways to handle this. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 05:44, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Hiya. Please don't take offense but I've declined to speedy the above. It just misses A7 in my view. I'd strongly recommend you take it to WP:AFD though - let me know if you need any help on that. Cheers. Pedro :  Chat  07:58, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Heh, cheers! How silly do I feel! Re: the afd help - It's sort of a stock line from me, as saying to less experienced editors "take it to AFD" can leave them baffled on the process. See what a good admin I am, not biting the newbies experienced admins ..... :) Pedro :  Chat  08:09, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

And what of images what where uploaded correctly and under good faith only to be changed by the "copyright holder" . I say "copyright holder" as i fail to see how someone can release an image as cc-by-2.0 for example and then claim all right reserved Gnevin (talk) 23:27, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

IP-block-exempt

May I ask why you gave your alternate account IP-block exempt?

02:17, May 9, 2008 Gonzo fan2007 (Talk | contribs | block) changed rights for User:Gonzo fan2007-Public from rollbacker to rollbacker, ipblock-exempt, accountcreator ‎ (my public account)

It does not fall into one of the two main reasons at Wikipedia:IPEXEMPT#Requesting_and_granting_exemption and it looks rather questionable for an admin to be giving another known account of their's a right that would permit it to evade autoblocking. MBisanz talk 04:00, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Well actually on IRC some people suggested I just remove the right and leave you a note, I figured asking was AGFing better than assuming it could be up to no good and just acting. The primary concern I have about ANY admin granting it to a declare alternate account, is that if that admin had undeclared, abusive socks, that were blocked for disruption, having IPblock-exempt would permit the declared alternate accounts to continue to edit through the autoblocker. And if someone isn't currently hitting a rangeblock, keeping them unflagged will keep the userright's list smaller and more monitorable. MBisanz talk 04:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Nah, I'll just leave it, thankfully I'm not crazy about assuming admins are socking (I worry about enough users as it is), and right now there are only 4 accounts on the listuser, so size isn't an issue. MBisanz talk 04:35, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Rfb participation thanks

Hi, Gonzo.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your early support, and I once again apologize for mistaking you for a borosilicate viper :) -- Avi (talk) 16:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Featured list question

You previously supported my FLC of the List of Pittsburgh Steelers head coaches. I'm a little confused as to why it was removed, There were two supports (yours included) and a "mild oppose", along with suggestions from The Rambling Man (talk · contribs). I fixed Rambling Man's suggestions, but he never responded to them, even after I left two messeges on his talk page. I guess I went over the limit of days on the Canidate list, but it would have been promoted with his support, right? So should I just re-nominate it? Thanks! Blackngold29 00:14, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Green Bay Packers template

Hi, Gonzo fan2007. fyi, I rolled up my sleeves and been working on converting the nfl franchise templates to the {{Navbox}} format standardization for footer templates. Take a look at {{Green Bay Packers}} as I just finished that one and saw your comment on the talk page. --Gwguffey (talk) 03:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for looking it over. I hear what you are saying about the flow of the old design and don't disagree. The benefit is definitely more in terms of the collapsibility and uniformity of presentation when working with other footer templates than it is from visual layout. As we enter the "marination phase" of the NFL template transition, now would be a great time for folks to play around with the content, arrangement and features of the Navbox. Maybe someone will come up with something brilliant that could be incorporated into the whole set. Drop me a line if you have any additional thoughts. The NFC ones are done, off to start on the AFC.... --Gwguffey (talk) 13:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Image de-speedyings

Hello, I don't particularly like it when a fellow admin "declines" a properly argued speedy tag of mine without so much as a word of justification, as you did at Image:Ep01 tony.jpg. Please note that you are not really in a position to "decline" anything here; I see no reason why I couldn't still make the speedy decision myself. Which I will do, unless I actually hear a rationale from you why you think this image does not obviously fail NFCC#8, in which case I'll sigh and take it through the waste of time and work that is WP:IFD.

By the way, at Image:Marcellus Lovejoy Stearns gv000508.jpg, which you also "declined" without so much as a word of reasoning, you missed a very compelling deletion rationale on the talk page; it was in fact a clear-cut I9. Fut.Perf. 10:09, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but you are mistaken about policy: I tagged it, not because I wished to hand off responsibility, but because I have to, because this particular speedy criterion is bound to a notification period. Of course, I have no problem with somebody else then making a decision – if that decision is argued for. That's all I'm asking. If somebody goes to the trouble of arguing why something should happen (in this case, deletion), it means disrespect to their work if somebody else then drops by and thinks they can just literally wipe out that work without a word of explanation.
I'm now a bit undecided if I'll take it to IfD or just still go ahead with my own speedy, because I still haven't heard a policy-conformant reason from you why you think it should be kept. "Others have not thought it should be deleted" is not an argument. "The uploader wrote a rationale" is not an argument either, if that rationale is obviously a piece of worthless boilerplate that doesn't even refer to the image and its function individually. Speedy deletion, according to policy, in fact is for images that have rationales when those rationales are bad. Seriously, I'd like to hear your opinion, not about process but about the image. Do you think that image is keepable? Fut.Perf. 15:01, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Okay, IfD it is then. Now that you've provided a reason, I obviously respect that. I must still correct you on matters of policy though: (1) Me speedying it at this point would still not be wheel-warring, because not performing a speedy doesn't constitute a binding admin decision like closing an XfD, there's never been a rule that a second admin couldn't speedy something just because somebody else didn't; (2) speedy deletion of bad fair use images does not exclude old uploads; in fact the criterion explicitly includes them; (3) the CSD explicitly talks of images that fail "any part of the non-free content criteria"; like it or not, this includes the subjective #8. In fact, I routinely speedy such cases, and don't remember ever having been overturned at DRV. – And I would still ask you that in future if you decline a speedy proposed in good faith and with serious arguments by an editor in good standing, you provide at least a hint at a reasoning, before people have to request one. Fut.Perf. 01:52, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

See, now that's the first and only constructive comment I've had all day. What you said actually made sense. What the mob said did not, nor did it feel like it was in good faith like User:Gary King's comments. GreenJoe 19:05, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Nice way to talk about me when I'm unaware. Anyways, as I replied on my own talk page, I was assuming good faith. I decided to bring to light something that others might not be aware of.
