[edit] GnRH in other organs
Perhaps not yet fully understood, but I would argue against the assertion that GnRH activity outside the CNS is "poorly understood". Some fascinating articles out of UBC in Vancouver, Canada suggest a clear role for GnRH I and II in the differential regulation of matrix metalloproteinase expression (MMP-2, MMP-9) as well as that of TIMP-1 in the placenta. GnRH appears to be an essential regulator for the invasion of the endometrium by cytotrophoblast cells of the blastocyst. (see this article Chou, C.-S. et al.
