[edit] History
Gonzo Fiction was formed in the fall of 2003 in Hesperia, California. Jesse Otawka's (Jesse-O) purpose was to revive the 'dying' punk scene in Southern California. Gonzo Fiction sought to combine old-school influences of Orange County punk, minus the connotations, to provide a good clean sound. In 2007, they produced their first album, Way Past Desperate. Combining old school punk, with some of today's heavy metal. Lead singer Jesse-O, is quoted saying:
"Well, its 6 weeks into making our first album,"Desperate Songs for Desperate Measures". Its 3 years in the making. In the summer of '03, when i had just been kicked out of this band that i had to audition for, there name was Bent to the Left, a reference to a the anatomy of a white guys penis(it wasNOT my idea)There want to never leave the garage blew my mind. After getting the boot, i thought that was it BUT for once, me being stubborn paid off, and months later, Gonzo fiction began.I wanted to make music that i could share with the world.Ive been the biggest asshole to the guys that i consider 3 of my best friends but, it has been all this pushing, that has lead to what we are creating now. The best fucking rockNroll album that we can make at this time. Hopefully the whole world will here this one, not just the people hanging out in the garage."

[edit] Hunter S. Thompson
The band's name comes from Hunter S. Thompson's Gonzo Journalism. Gonzo Journalism blends together investigative journalism with a hint of fiction and personalty.Gonzo journalism tends to favor style over accuracy and often uses personal experiences and emotions to provide context for the topic or event being covered. It disregards the 'polished' edited product favored by newspaper media and strives for the gritty factor. Use of quotes, sarcasm, humor, exaggeration, and even profanity is common. The use of Gonzo journalism portends that journalism can be truthful without striving for objectivity and is loosely equivalent to an editorial.
