The Gongwer News Service is a weekday (Monday-Friday) subscriber-only newsletter published in Lansing, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio. Gongwer covers state government and politics in both Michigan and Ohio, and maintains one of the largest Capitol bureaus in either state (with six reporters each). Gongwer currently publishes, almost exclusively, as an online newsletter.
Beyond daily news reporting, Gongwer offers a variety of online services, including bill tracking, status reports, customized e-mail alerts, detailed legislative and political event schedules.
[edit] History
Gongwer was founded in 1906 by Charles S. Gongwer, then a Statehouse correspondent for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. In 1961, new owner William Baird started the Gongwer Michigan Report, alongside Michigan's constitutional convention. Mr. Baird continued as owner until his death, when Gongwer was acquired by three staff members, including current co-owners Larry Lee and Alan Miller.
