[edit] sorry

This has nothing to do with me - the Wikipedia:No original research guideline specifically rules out "I was there" testimony. No original research or testimony - you can only put in information that has been researched/reported by others. Sorry. --Golbez 01:52, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

after reading everything i could find about Wikipedia guidelins it look like "I was there" testimony is okay and is not original research.

"Primary sources are documents or people very close to the situation being written about. An eyewitness account is a primary source" this was on the link you sent me some time a go. Or am I still not getting it?Dm2ortiz 16:00, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

By definition Darlinton and Indianapolis are not superspeedways because darlington is less than 2 miles and Indy has less than 30 degrees of banking. Although both are often referred to as superspeedway, Darlington and Indy in addition to all other race tracks in the world other than Talledega and Daytona are only speedways —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Poconut (talk • contribs) 02:48, 10 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Roidweiser

Hi, sorry I'm new, can I ask why the 'Daxflame' page was deleted and not just edited. I gather from the delete message, there was a lot wrong with it, but I'm not sure what the abbreviations mean db-bio, db-ad, db-nn. I'm guessing the bio was wrong.. and that's about all I can gather from it. Thanks

Yes could you send me a copy of it to work on, thanks.

Hi.. can I know why you deleted the external links I inserted for Sora Aoi's page?

[edit] Emerson Prep

Hi, Golbez. This is insomniacsloth from various articles, including the Emerson Prep one. I'm a happy student there, as was Yum299. When did you graduate? Where you under Humphrey or Walsh? Remember any teachers?

[edit] Shock images

What policy did they break? I don't understand how you can have an article about shock images without pictures of the images. A picture is worth 1000 words. Anyway the Goatse article had 2 pictures of the "temple of goatse" from some stupid computer game, surely a picture of the actual Goatse is more relevant.

[edit] Road map

Hi Golbez and many tanks for the compliments. Its nice to know that my work has inspired someone. I used Illustrator for the map. I tried my hand at inkscape and found it a little cumbersome, but its prolly developed now. But i do recommend using illustrator or corel draw, if you want to work really fast, especially for huge networks like that for the US. You do have the advantage that maps are readily available for tracing, unlike for India where i had to use a little close to a gazillion sources and put it all together like a giant hair-tearing jigsaw. Its not the perfect way to spend your free time, but the end result is well worth it. All the best to ya and drop me a line if you get into a tight spot. cheers -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:00, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Use the pencil tool to draw the lines. for the double stroke, just select your line, and in the appearance dock, choose add new stroke. Do this two times with the first stroke broader than the second and use different colors and youll see what i mean -- PlaneMad|YakYak 01:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Fantastic Job Golbez!! Regarding your query, its really simple. Just follow these steps:

  1. Make sure all the roads are within a single layer.
  2. Click on the target icon for this layer (looks like a circle). This will select the entire network.
  3. In the appearance dock, do the same thing as before for the double stroke (the target icon will turn solid)

What this does is treat all the roads as a single object and apply the stroke, not individually as is the case now, where one highway overlaps another. And any line you draw in this layer automatically inherits the stroke, no need to select it seperately.
If this doesnt work, the individual styles may be conflicting with the layer style, to fix this click to the right of the layer target icon, which selects the contents of the layer, and then clear the stroke. Happy insane mapping-- PlaneMad|YakYak 15:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Howdy

I wandered into the discussion debate on Afghanistan through a strange, circuitous route. It started with Luna Santins talk page (posting a response) to KB Botany's talk page, and then the Afghanistan talk page itself. Botany just really sounded hapless and beleagured, which is why I followed the trail in the first place.

I've spent the last two hours reading the Afghanistan talk page (well, most of it). It gets EXTREMELY technical, but based on what I read, I urge you to reconsider your indefinite block on NiserKand. He has some mistaken beliefs, but and he has made more than a few inflammatory remarks, but he has also contributed positively to other articles (if his user talk page is any indication), and it appears that the net effect of his efforts has been to actually make the Afghanistan article more neutral. At least that is the opinion of a few of the editors on the Afghanistan talk page.

I would also like to point out that Tajik made the first accusation of racism against NiserKand. I don't know how to copy a diff, nor do I believe I could find it in the history, but I could point out the general area on the talk page if you asked me.

I think if he were strongly disabused of the notion that his self-stated "expert" knowledge made him more qualified to edit than other people who are willing to read, discuss, and collaborate, he could be a very helpful editor.

Up until tonight, I had little interest in Afghanistan and knew next to nothing of the subject. In other words, I have no dog in this race. I just felt it necessary to bring this up in the interest of fairness

If you would like to respond me, please use my user talk page.

Thanks for your time,NinaEliza 10:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your response

I understand your position. I don't believe NisarKand has an email address attached to his account, but I also hadn't confirmed my own email at that point so I will try again.

One thing that is important to point out (as I learned from the talk on Afghanistan) is that "Aryan", doesn't mean the same thing in Afghanistan as it does, say, to the Aryan Nation. Arya or Aria was an ancient name for that entire region. The "rats" comment was way out of line, but it came after a lengthy, bitter debate and in my opinion was designed to specifically piss Tajik off. In the mean time, Tajik constantly called NisarKand racist in response to nearly everything NisarKand said. It's all over the talk page.

From what I understand, there are some serious human rights violations currently going on against the Pashtuns (that's what NisarKand is). While it's been alluded on the talk page, I don't know anything further. I think this makes the whole thing particularly sensitive to NisarKand, as well as Tajik.

Ironically, on the very same talk (one would need to scroll WAY up) is a fantastic, easy-to-understand, and compassionate summary of the dilemma. I'll edit it down to the most salient points, but it's still a bit long. Forgive me, and I appreciate your patience in advance (italics are mine for emphasis):

"Afghanistan has hardly ever been a single country. It does not even completely represent a people as such, since the Pashtuns are almost evenly split between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Tajiks between Tajikistan and Afghanistan and Uzbeks with Uzbekistan. A census has never been taken, and various pieces of land has belonged to different people. In addition, almost no one can be considered indigenous of the land, due to non-stop invasions throughout the history...

Afghanistan for most of its history has been a collection of loosely-connected tribes, most of which lived quite autonomously...Afghanistan could never be seen simply as a 'nation' or country of a 'people'. The name 'Afghanistan' was coined by a Pashtun at a time when many other ethnic groups lived autonomously within the region...

...The demographics and history of Afghanistan are therefore highly disputed. Percentages of population are very frequently overstated, each ethnic group claiming 80% of the population is not uncommon. The population also fluctuates with the movements of the large number of refugees...

While the history of smaller ethnic and religious groups are lost, historians in Iran, Turkey, Pakistan etc constantly view Afghanistan as a part of greater 'Turkistan', 'greater Persia' and so on. This makes the history of the country highly biased and unreliable, and it should be viewed as such...

On the other hand, the various peoples secured their own history better, the history of Pashtuns are best read from a Pashtun perspective, Hazaras from Hazara perspective, Tajiks from Tajik perspective, and always with a grain of salt.

This makes the history very interesting, but very difficult to dig up."

So what's to be done? KP Botany often criticized both parties (in an amazingly neutral, constructive way), but was ultimately of the opinion (along with a couple of other people) that the article as it stood was too biased towards the Tajik POV, and that NisarKand's contributions were welcome and important (though his "welcome" contributions usually had to be sifted through loads of overwhelmingly contested stuff).

I realize this is WAY more information than you ever wanted on the situation, and I promise this will be by far my lengthiest post to you. I just felt a little bit more background was necessary (and we all learned a little!).

In any event, I realize your very busy actually being productive here, so... NinaEliza 05:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Youz a brave man, Golbez, for jumping into this fracas.
Actually, no. The probability is mighty close to 1 that both Nisar and Tajik have relatives from the other ethnic side through intermarriage, a very common practice in Afghanistan--probably even aunties who'd slap them both right across their faces for the way they've represented Afghanistan on Wikipedia. And make them apologize to you for having the decency to take at least one of them to task for completely unacceptable rudeness. They've both contributed usefully to Wikipedia, and both greatly tarnished the sense of community necessary for an endeavour of this nature.
I'm studying, on and off, the ethnography of census taking in Central Asia and will correct population reports from Afghanistan to include opposing viewpoints and explanations of the reality of census-taking in Central Asia, eventually. It's an interesting topic and will enhance Wikipedia's usability to include information of this nature. Until then, when things cool down a bit, I will tag articles, as necessary to reflect their lack of neutrality with an appropriate explanation.
I know you know you did the right thing in this situation. KP Botany 17:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Whoever claims that NisarKand has done "good contribution to the Afghanistan article" has NO idea what he is talking about. Despire the fact that he NEVER provides ANY reliable sources for his claims (it seems like User:KP Botany is not interested in sources), he actively deletes authoritative scholarly sources (Britannica, Iranica, Encyclopaedia of Islam, Cambr. History of Iran, etc), and he actually humiliates himself by claiming that Pashtuns were the first people in space, the Pashtuns invented nuclear technology, and that Pashtuns are gifted with intelligence and power, while others are "rats".
Instead of supporting such a nonsense, people should try to educate themselvs by reading actualy scholarly articles about Afghanistan.
The names "Persian" and "Persia" ARE mentioned very often, because until not so long ago, the region of today's Afghanistan was part of "Persia". Even now, the Persian language as well as the Persian language are dominant in Afghanistan (all scholarly sources, as well as CIA's factbook, agree on this!)
This may be hard for NisarKand or KP Botany to understand or to be accepted, but this is the truth and - most important of all - it is supported with scholarly sources (see the article).
I really do not know what KP Botany is up to, but he is very certainly not an expert on Afghanistan. I rather trust scholarly articles, and Wikipedians who are actually specialized on Central Asian history, such as User:Sikandarji.
Tājik 03:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Again Tajik embarks upon personal attacks, "Whoever claims that NisarKand has done 'good contribution to the Afghanistan article' has NO idea what he is talking about." Now Tajik claims I "have no idea what [I] am talking about."
As I also claimed in the same sentence that Tajik has "contributed usefully to Wikipedia," and Tajik gives me no credit for this (not a partial idea of what I am talking about, but "no idea") it appears that Tajik is essentially asserting that Tajik, too, has made no useful contributions to Wikipedia.
This is a personal attack and has nothing whatsoever to do with Wikipedia--Tajik has been warned about personal attacks and has recently been blocked for being uncivil.[1] And he continues to be uncivil, here is calling calling another editor's claims "stupid."[2] This is simply no way to come to an agreement on an issue, calling other claims stupid. What one does is discuss and debate the other claims.
There is no requirement on Wikipedia that only experts in their areas contribute, and, in fact, Tajik has not established his credentials as an expert, or as an editor able to distinguish between varying sources. Tajik quotes no Wikipedia policy about limiting Wikipedia to experts or scholars, as there is none. He is welcome to propose this policy, though. There are, however, many Wikipedia policies and guidelines against edit wars, personal attacks, being uncivil, and harassing other editors.
This continued lack of civility on Tajik's part, even after being blocked for 24 hours for his lack of civility, his continued personal attacks, and his inability to engage in discussions on issues of content are tedious.

[edit] Thanks, I think...

THAT comment I never saw. I will say however, that when NisarKand first came on the the Afghanistan talk page he was civil and apologetic for making a crapload of undiscussed edits (which as you know a lot of new users do). I actually don't think he'll be back, but you never know. Anyway, thank you - that was a generous thing to do. I was more concerned about KP botany anyway. He is an active and prolific editor that got caught in the middle of a bitter and contentious battle, and he has gotten nothing but crap for it. I honestly think he's on the verge of splitting, which would be tragic. Hopefully, this gesture will cheer him up. Best Wishes and thanks again,NinaEliza 07:07, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portfolio for ArbCom

On Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2006/Summary table, I added a column "Examples" with links that exhibit a candidate's arbitration skills. My motivation is that as a voter, I don't want to just rely on a candidate's words, but also see their actions. Moreover, I believe a portfolio of "model cases" to remember in difficult situations can be useful for each candidate, as well.

So far I have entered examples for the candidates who registered first (from their questions page), and I'm not sure if and when I will get to yours, so you may want to enter an example or two yourself. — Sebastian (talk) 05:29, 4 December 2006 (UTC)    (I stopped watching this page. [edit] Judgment

I'll be honest -- there was nothing particularly striking in your history, but you support Kelly Martin for ArbCom. In my view, this is an automatic disqualifier for any candidate, because either 1) you haven't been paying attention to the wiki much; 2) your ability to judge other people's interactions is gravely flawed and/or 3) you must support some truly horrendous wiki-policy positions.

It may not normally be considered ethical to oppose someone based on whom he supports; but, as Geogre rightly points out, Ms. Martin is an extraordinary case. It was Jimbo who recommended open voting, and I have the right to act on the basis of information attained therefrom, especially in a case where I do feel the evidence indicates a severe problem. Best wishes, Xoloz 16:30, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I should add that I also took note of your recent 3RR. Xoloz 16:32, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Your "witnesses" are not at all impressive, as I made no effort whatsoever to hide the reason for my opposition. That you wear your support for Ms. Martin as "a badge of honor" confirms my impression that your judgment is severely flawed. This is not a military campaign, you know. Best wishes, Xoloz 16:43, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Hey, sorry to bother you, but a user named "Baristarim", keeps vandalizing the article Nochiya Tribe. He most likely does this because he is a Turk who denies the Genocide that was done by his people to the Christians of his empire. He keeps marking the article Nochiya Tribe, and all sites linked to it as "No Refrences", even though there are refrences. Thanks --A2raya07 16:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Wrong.. Please watch for civility, don't assume and keep the accusations to a minimum. The only reason I am marking that article is there are not enough references. I have dropped the ref tag, and put an OR tag instead. If you would like, please take a look at the article. This user has also created many articles that have absolutely no sources or about towns that do not exist. I have pointed this out to him with a post to his talk page. If you wish, you can contact other admins that know me to ask them if I am a "filthy genocide-denying vandal".
I will ask you (A2raya07) again to watch for civility. The article doesn't have neccessary sources and is not written with a formal encyclopedic tone. Simple. I just launched the Wikipedia:Greek and Turkish wikipedians cooperation board, so spare me the nationalist accusations. There won't be any articles about non-existent towns, or without sources. [edit] Assistance with article

I was hoping you might be able to assist. A user keeps adding a "spamlink" back to the Asheville page. I removed a large number of external links as per to make the list more in line with WP:EL. This user is insistant upon adding a link that, in my opinion, has an excessive number of advertisements (17+). The user has tried to add the link back by using Sock Puppets. It would seem like there's something "in it" for this user (i.e. is he affiliated with the site or one of the advertisers?). He also feigned adminship in a post on my talk page, "warning" me against removing the link. So far he/she has used Rlph wiggins, Conspireagainst and Clarke187. ++ Arx Fortis 23:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

You and Hanum are the ones edit-warring. Why do you both insist on removing perfectly good information? Also, why the extremely incivil and rude remarks on my talk page? I think you are in breach of WP:CIVIL. MarkThomas 01:57, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] your explanations are stupid?

Who are you to decide what links are appropriate and not? Large businesses only deserve a listing? That is crazy! There were a lot of appropriate links that were removed by somebody else. Why you choose to support them is beyond me. I know how to change my IP address btw.. it's real easy to do with RR. I can get behind a proxy if need be. These are all appropriate links to things in Charlotte. I.E> the charlotte nightlife site. There really isn't a huge entry on the nightlife scene, therefore an external link is appropriate. Why you think that is inappropriate and a link ot The Charlotte Observer is apporpriate shows you don't know anything about Charlotte. I live here... so leave me alone. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.53.185.56 (talk) 16:42, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

[edit] NK

Golbez, the page is about NK, not about just NKAO, and even as it is, before my edits, it cites a lot of pre-NKAO and post-NKAO events. Thus, statistics on population before 1923 must be there, and should not be removed. Thank you for upholding this. --AdilBaguirov 20:00, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NK

Hi Golbez, regarding your revert on the population, this was long discussed previously and Adil know he is manipulating the sources. The materials showing Armenians as minority relate to Karabakh, which is not NK, Armenians have always been concentrated on its mountainous region(which is NK), the rest is already part of Azerbaijan and undisputed. Adil and Grandmaster are aware of this. Fad (ix) 17:57, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re: Saxon genitive citation

Here, you cite a Wikipedia article, Saxon genitive, in support of your reversion of my alteration to complex's. I think there's ample evidence in meta, that wikipedians should not cite unreferenced assertions in one WP article as an authoritative "source" for assertions in other WP articles. So, instead of making uncited arguments about the incorrect assertion made in the Saxon genitive article (to wit, it states there that "[m]any English writers have adopted the nonstandard usage (even in formal writing) of adding only an apostrophe for the singular possessive of a noun ending in "s"."), I found a source. Warriner's English Grammar and Composition, 5th Course. Publisher: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. © 1953 ff. (I'm looking at the 1977 edition) ISBN: 0-15-311904-7. p. 455, THE APOSTROPHE, section 25q., I'll just quote the introduction to the section, since that's the only part that deals with the subject at hand:

25q. To form the possessive case of a singular noun, add an apostrophe and an s.
EXAMPLES boy's hat       Helen's dress       the boss's office       for heaven's sake
When a word of more than one syllable ends in an s sound, the singular possessive may be formed by adding the apostrophe alone. This omission avoids the awkward hiss of the repeated s sounds.
EXAMPLES the witness' testimony       for conscience' sake

Hey Golbez, sorry about the confusion. I thought the phrase "this list" referred to the list of territories that immeidately ensued; I realize now that you meant it to refer to the article as a whole. However, the article isn't really a list. Maybe "list" should be changed to "article"?

[edit] Space race

Dear,

Start the space race, bring the concern, was the result of the sputnick launch. Please refer to space race This in not meant to be some kind of demerit or aggression to the US. It's just a fact. Nasa came from the concern the lauch created ! As it is a fact that the soviets just did this because their atomic warheads where worse, and therefore, they used more powerful rockets. Or that the US got far more tech from the space race than the USSR.

As far as the spelling is concerned, I am sure you could have been more kind. Please, if you could use some more politeness in subsequent posts, I am sure the discussion will be more productive

best regards

Cold Light 00:38, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I did not mean to be POV (so-called refered to the "space race", what POV do you reckon it was promoting ?) anyways, I thought it could be a good way to underline the fact that the cold war stimulated technology in the US. More as an example.

however:

"achieved successes in space science and technology, leading to a space race"

does mean that the US gave the first steps in the space race, right ?

If it does, well, as I said before, that is not a fact.

We could omit who started it, or state it was the USSR. I think the second one brings more clarity to the dinamics of the cold war. It can even be underlined that the US got much more tech from it that the soviets. Please, if you could sugest an non-POV way to include that information on the article, I'd be glad to contribute as I can

[edit] Thanks for your comment

I am just bothered a little bit that this has become somehow an ethnic war and that Grandmaster hit on every Armenian users he could, I had decided at first to concentrate on Adil and the two peatpuppets of his, but Grandmaster doesn't understand that by defending Adil he is harming himself, there is no question now, unfortunitly that I have to defende myself and include Grandmaster cooperating with a member who will possibly be blocked indefinitly from English Wikipedia unless you could convince him to concentrate on those who have done things which he hasn't done and drop all those insignificancies by some not so actif members and I'll try to do the same with some Armenian members who are thinking like Grandmaster there. There is no point in trying to get "sentenced" every Armenian and Azeri users when without Adil and his two meatpuppets action and reaction this cases would have never been submitted to the Arbitration committee and that had any of us (Armenian or Azeri) submitted it, it would have been rejected. Tel me what you think, because believe me I have incriminating materials against Grandmaster, but after all this cases is done, we need an Azeri member who is active in those topics, to debate with. I am waiting your reply, regards. Fad (ix) 15:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Since recognition of such important organizations as PACE, OIC and UN GA, as well as nations such as USA, is a fact, it should be reflected alongside with UN SC. [edit] "Stop that"?

Why should I stop? What's wrong with the metric system? It's a superior form of measurement and, as a matter of fact, is the US's official form of measurement ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mendenhall_Order ). Oh I'm sorry I didn't know; I'm kind of new. [edit] Image: Mexico states evolution

I congratulate you for making this extraordinary contribution. However, I would like to note a couple of things regarding the map and history:

  • Central America (or, more accurately, the Provinces of Central America which comprised the territories of what was considered the "Captaincy General of Guatemala") was part of Mexico from 1821 to 1823. Even on the Archivo General de la Nación maps of the evolution of the Mexican territory include Central America, which seceded before the 1824 constitution was drafted. Chiapas was one of these provinces. When Central America decided to secede, Chiapas chose to remain in the Union by referendum.
  • The Republic of Rio Grande was not constitutionally independent, but only in a de facto manner and for a matter of a couple of months. It didn't "rejoin" Mexico. The "insurrection" was fought by (and defeated) by the centralist troops of Santa Anna. It didn't rejoin: it was forced not to secede. If the Republic of Rio Grande is considered an fully independent nation that rejoined Mexico, then so was Zacatecas, which also declared its independence when centralism was established, but whose troops were also defeated by Santa Anna. On the other hand, Santa Anna's forces could not defeat the forces of either Texas or Yucatán, and both became full independent nations. The territorial acquisition/evolution map of the US, for example does not exclude the Confederate States because they did not secede successfully, but were brought back to the Union by war. So is the case with Zacatecas and the Republic of Rio Grande. (BTW, some historians even deny the existence of the Republic other than by a written proposal).
  • The Republic of Yucatán was de jure independent on two occasions, and not one: from 1841-1843 and from 1846-1848. On both occasions the "insurrection" defeated Santa Anna, a new constitution of the independent nation was drafted (ergo they became a de jure independent nation), and on both occasions it was through negotiations that Yucatán rejoined Mexico. The first time Yucatán rejoined Mexico under the condition that it was not going to be treated as a "province" or "department" but as a "state" which allowed them to keep their constitution and trade tariffs. The second time it was negotiated that Yucatán would rejoin Mexico if Mexico would send the army to fight back the indigenous insurrection which had destabilized the country [Yucatán] (in what was called "La Guerra de Castas", which lasted for several decades).

[edit] US Land area ranking

There is no dispute in the ranking with China in land area. Both the US and China recognize China as having the larger land area. The dispute is only over total area, which includes bodies of water, because the US has many more lakes than China. I have included a reference as well. What's your justification for reverting? Penser 09:09, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Penser

Thanks, Golbez. I appreciate your conscientiousness. Penser 09:17, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Penser

[edit] re: USA, PRC, and areas

(from your post on User talk:Penser) Actually, from the lengthy discussions on List of countries by area, the discrepancy is because of two issues: 1. the USA has changed its method of calculating water areas in recent years, thereby increasing its size, which some international organisations/sources have not caught onto/recognised, and 2. the inclusion in the PRC figure of territories administered by China but claimed by India.

Even using new figures for the USA ("overseas territories" excluded), and even excluding Taiwan and associated islands, including the Indian-claimed areas puts China at 3rd, while excluding them puts China at 4th. See, for example, the figures currently listed at List of countries by area, both of which exclude Taiwan and other ROC-administered islands.

In its official stats, the PRC is usually ambiguous (preferring figures like "9.6 million square km" rather than an exact figure), probably because it knows including Taiwan is contrary to reality, yet excluding Taiwan is contrary to its own state policies. --Sumple (Talk) 10:51, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

in a recent edit summary, you stated that you "agree, that is a far disproportionate amount of text for that group." Yet in the edit, you restored the text. [edit] Nagorno-Karabakh

By the way regarding this line on the article, "officially part of the Republic of Azerbaijan", that sounds like POV pushing since the status of Karabakh is not yet determined, since its under Armenian control, backed by historical claims, if we add that than there should be a sentence right after it saying currently under Armenian control in the intro or else its misleading into thinking Azerbaijan owns it when it does not, it is where Armenians live, it is where they pay millions to restore schools, churches, houses etc, where they would never do they have nothing to it, only poor historians like Mamedova claiming Armenians came from Mars or somewhere, its a good time to start propaganda in there country since there still shaking from the 92 war. Yeah but you deal with the conflicts there, I was just blabbering. Artaxiad 00:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nagorno-Karabakh

Please consider unprotecting Nagorno-Karabakh. If you look through Dmcdevit's recent log, he has unprotected a number of articles in the Armenia-Azeri dispute saying that editors under 1RR parole should be blocked rather than protecting the article. Thatcher131 17:25, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

If we write "Dağlıq Qarabağ Respublikası" (Azerbaijani form) instead of "Lernayin Gharabaghi Hanrapetutyun" (Armenian form) that could imply that Azerbaijan recognizes that state in the Upper-Karabakh. Euratlas 19:07, 8 May 2007 (GMT +1)

Hi Golbez, I would love to say "peace y'all", but I said that last week, and ChrisO has shown no sign of taking that controversy to heart. Hello, Golbez! Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thanks! --AW 15:43, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NK Intro, let's stop this nonsense

Golbez, let's both stop acting like children fighting over candy, and let's just try to discuss this in a civil way... From my arguments against your proposed changes, which ones do you agree with, and which ones don't you agree with? Now although your change strengthens the Azeri POV in my opinion (read that second sentence by itself, and you'll see what I mean), I do have to admit that you probably didn't intend any harm in it since you were clearly trying to "fix" the logic of the intro... The only thing I'm asking is for you to understand how your changes weakens NPOV of that second sentence, and we can build it from there... I really don't want those months of discussions over the intro to go to waste, so let's be constructive instead of destructive... Handshake??? HyeProfile 15:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A question for you

Here. Tomertalk 04:52, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

To quote from Louisiana Purchase,
Napoleon Bonaparte returned Louisiana to French control from Spain in 1800, under the Treaty of San Ildefonso (Louisiana had been a Spanish colony since 1762). However, the treaty was kept secret, and Louisiana remained under Spanish control until a transfer of power to France. The transfer finally took place on November 30, 1803, just three weeks before the cession to the United States..
I bolded the last part there, because I think it's of particular relevance, as well as the fact that the negotiations took place between the gov't of France and US diplomats, not between them and the gov't of Spain... TIA, Tomertalk 05:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Territorial acquisition in US series

I came across the Image:United States 1789-03-1789-08.png series at the end of last year an was impressed by it. I tried to find it again today and for about 30 minutes was unable to. I basically searched around the theme "Historical maps of the United States". There I found many maps and many categories, but none that were the series I was seeking. Since one of the maps listed in there had the same blank, I followed it to "User:Golbez" and found a reference to the series on the page by jengod. Is it me, or is this series separated off somehow from all the other US maps? Can it be made more prominent in the category listings? -- SGBailey 23:26, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:The Bad Tax Man

Remember him?? Well, he's the guy who got me into Wikipedia. He recruited me as a meatpuppet to vote in the "Votes for Deletion" (as it was back then), and taught me everything I needed to know about Wikipedia (in the days before semi-protection and cascading protection, remember them??). However, instead of trying to vandalise, I just reported his "Cornchips" sockpuppets that he used to edit the Wayne Rooney page when I created a user account - my original account was User:Bourne End (dammit, I lost the password to that one!).

I was accused of being a sockpuppet in my RFA, if you wish to admin coach me that would be helpful. I'm technically not a sockpuppet, but not a new user either.... confusing eh?? But now I've explained my history!

Anyhow, The Bad Tax Man hasn't come back to Wikipedia, and won't be... but he has apologised for his behaviour! --SunStar Net talk 12:51, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] jamdonut

Why did you unblock jamdonut? This person does a lot of blatant vandalism page moves (switching Evil and Religion, switching Jesus and Muhammed), and has been doing it for a while, despite several warnings. This user was previously blocked but unblocked for unknown reasons by Yamla. Yamla also helped jamdonut delete his user page talk history (also for reasons unknown), probably hiding a long history of warnings, and maybe even more previous blocks and unblocks. Fredwerner 19:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I was just going to ask what is going on over at User talk:Jamdonut... dude seems to think you are unblocking him but he still has an indef (and I'd suggest he not be unblocked right now, it looks like he got caught by an earlier autoblock of another vandal account; a user "he never heard of").--Isotope23 19:55, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] conspiratorial template

Congressman Paul said: "Well, that would be nice to have. Unfortunately, we don't have that in place. It will be a little bit better now with the Democrats now in charge of oversight. But you know, for top level policy there's not a whole lot of difference between the two policies so a real investigation isn't going to happen. But I think we have to keep pushing for it. And like you and others, we see the investigations that have been done so far as more or less cover-up and no real explanation of what went on."; so you see, he does acknowledge cover-up (conspiracy if you wish)… imo that template should be named properly, feel free to join the discussion. [edit] Ganja

Hi Golbez. I don’t think that you should have reverted Ganja. First of all, the section that you restored was created by User:Pulu-Pughi, a sock of banned user, [11] and banned users are not entitled to edit Wikipedia articles. Their edits should be reverted regardless of their quality, see WP:BAN#Enforcement_by_reverting_edits. Second, the info that the sock added is inaccurate, please see talk of the article for more details. The sources make perfectly clear that the city was founded by Arabs, while the text that you restored tries to create a different impression. If an edit cites some sources, it does not mean that they are used accurately and not distorted, and it is not a reason to restore them. I’ve been asking for quotes from the sources used for quite some time, and finally had to search for them myself. As I expected, they say something different to what is ascribed to them. Regards, Grandmaster 11:36, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I never said they were unsourced, I said that the info was added by a sock account and the sources were not quoted on talk despite my numerous requests. Examination of sources shows that they were misquoted. Please see talk and my comment. Grandmaster 11:43, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree, the edit summaries should provide accurate info. But as you correctly noted I'm not responsible for that summary. Thanks for rolling it back, I don't mind adding any info as long as it is properly sourced and accurate. Grandmaster 11:50, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Charlotte: City or Suburb

[edit] Charlotte: city or suburb

I was born and raised in a large city and I moved to Charlotte due in large part based on what the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce described Charlotte to be: "world class city". I have been here for 3 years and it has been a disappointment. I RESPECT people who do love Charlotte; I came to Charlotte with certain expectations based on cities I have lived in my life (all of them in the North). In the North, all cities share many similar traits such as ethnic neighborhoods, professional baseball, public train systems, world class museums, etc. The only difference among these cities are size. So when I came to Charlotte, I thought Charlotte would be a smaller city but have all of these things. I understand it is a perspective thing: if someone came from a smaller town then Charlotte is a world class city; but if someone came from a larger city then Charlotte is almost like a suburb. Again, I RESPECT people who do like Charlotte and believe it is a world-class city BUT I do want people to acknowledge and respect that the feelings of others may be different especially if others came from a larger city and are expecting certain traits of those cities to be in Charlotte. Thank you.

[edit] On the Andorra Map You've Created in Japanese

Recently I've been working with several articles related to Andorra and I found your message on the note page of アンドラ. I'd like to use the map you have created, Image:Andorra parishes japanese.png, but it needs a small modification from ヴェ to ベ in order to adjust it to the articles. Because we write not アンドラ・ラ・ヴェリャ but アンドラ・ラ・ベリャ at Japanese Wikipedia in order to write Andorra la Vella in Japanese.

I can modify it by myself, but I wanted to know whether it is all right or not, and wanted to say thank you for creating the map as well.--HannaLi 17:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AHS

One quite simple way to look at it: no {{ongoing weather}} or {{current}} tag on the main page means it's not a current event, hence not current-class. Current-class is really meant for current events, which the AHS is not until June 1. – Chacor 12:44, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comment

Golbz, those comments were directed against Atabek. You have been nothing but tireless and sincere in your commendable efforts here and it would ridiculous for me to accuse of "poisoning the atmosphere" in the face of all the work you have put in. Frustration with working with two near-uncompromising sides is a natural given :). You may have not read this but it's worth here repeating from the Nakhichevan page:

You cannot persuade a party of frenzied nationalists that two blacks do not make a white; consequently, no day went by without a catalogue of complaints from both sides, Armenians and Tartars [Azeris], of unprovoked attacks, murders, village burnings and the like. Specifically, the situation was a series of vicious cycles.

[edit] Re:AN3RR

Hi, Golbez, could you have another look at the 3RR report you recently processed? Dmcdevit's had a look at the Checkuser evidence and made a comment that may change the result of this report. Thanks. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 04:44, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

As it appears that you are not around to review your block in light of the checkuser evidence, I have taken the following steps:
  1. Given Dmcdevit's checkuser based conclusions I have unblocked Drastamat on the basis that he not a sockpuppet of a banned user
  2. The 3RR report against MarshallBagramyan is therefore valid and I have accordingly blocked him for 24 hours
  3. Given the evidence that Drastamat revert warred using sockpuppets, I have blocked him for 48 hours
Yours, WjBscribe 10:10, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
In light of the continued use of sockpuppets to make the same edits to the article in question, I have now restored the indefblock of Drastamat. WjBscribe 19:37, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sockpuppetry accusation against myself

Golbez, first I would like to thank [12] DmcDevit for running the checkuser and clearing my name of this groundless charge. I discuss all my edits and make them on all pages. So very likely that Drastamat was established by one of those accusing me. What's appaling though is your accusation of myself. Don't you think your position as a perceived mediator on Nagorno-Karabakh page becomes seriously questionnable provided your presumptive assumptions with regards to myself? I mean a mediator by definition must be impartial after all. If you think otherwise, why don't you initiate a little checkuser to ever check that it could be Artaxiad, Fadix or one of the banned or existing users of the "other side", which is trying to blackmail and get me banned. Atabek 16:11, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note :) I remember you have earlier chosen to nail down only User:AdilBaguirov during ArbCom, although User:Artaxiad was clearly the worst violator of all Wiki rules as evidenced in ArbCom. But no hard feelings in any case and thank you for your mediation efforts in this very fierce and very sad conflict. I don't defend Drastamat, I don't know who this user is, and he is at the mercy of administrators in any case. And if sockpuppetry is found let him carry the punishment. What's concerning is User:Vartanm, User:Augustgrahl, and User:MarshallBagramyan, who are engaging in an edit war on the pages I even briefly touch, and then accuse me of sockpuppetry. How do I know they're not the ones establishing Drastamat, following my edits to accuse me. It's even more concerning that although initially included in ArbCom and not at all acting differently than those restricted by ArbCom, these three users have pretty much walked free due to miscalculation and enjoy unrestricted edit warring. Atabek 16:58, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for (not) answering my question... how administrator-like of you.--Dr who1975 19:00, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Read your response. Trolls post on a board for no other reason than to mess with people... I had a specific question. How you ever got to be an administrator is beyond me. If you don't like people asking you questions about your mistake... try not screwing up all of wikipedia... then you won't have to deal with it. Calling me a troll simply for asking you a question and expressing frustration is not administrator like behavior. You are supposed to be held to a higher standard. You really owe me a BIG apology and you still owe me that explanation.--Dr who1975 19:24, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Read your further response... let's take a few steps back... how exactly do the senetnces.. "What the heck happened yesterday What did you do to accidentally block all of wikipedia?" insult your work? You msut be very sensetive if you thought this was sufficient troll like behavior to ignore me.--Dr who1975 14:53, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
I think you owe Golbez an apology and not the other way around. He made a mistake, nuff said, SqueakBox 19:31, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes you do need to chillax. I'll admit I was pissed off myself (above) when this happened as CAT:RFU was bigger than the Charlotte landfill at the time, but Golbez had no idea which IP that user was using. A mistake was made, if even that, and now we know what not to block. You really should lay off. -Pilotguy hold short 21:57, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
I didn;t even know what kind of mistake he made because he ignored me and called me a troll. Simply becaue I had the "audacity" to ask him what went wrong. I had to be mildly sarcastic just to get the guy to talk to me and then I'm a troll. What kind of catch 22 is that? --Dr who1975 14:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps being called a troll was mild sarcasm too. --Golbez 18:16, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
you're still illustrating my point... catch 22.--Dr who1975 23:35, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Well he obviously did it deliberately just to annoy everybody, SqueakBox 19:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes... I thought he did it on purpose... that's why I used the word "accidentally". I had to move your response to the bottom because it changes/colors the sequence of my discours with Golbez if you put it in the middle.--Dr who1975 15:45, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
I share your sense of hilarity, SqueakBox 03:20, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ron Paul

I am not alleging Racism, and neither is "common sense." If you read the sourced 1996 article, you would see that one of his political opponents along with the author of the article/editorial alleged it. I have been editing wikipedia long enough that I know simple rules like no original research, adding sources to my additions, importance, verifying my sources (especially for a biography of a living person), etc. I followed all these rules in adding the racism section, but a long line of Ron Paul supporters have been removing it to the point that I feel like I have to police the section to ensure the article remains NPOV. The general consensus of regular editors on the talk page seems to be that there is nothing wrong with the section as a whole. Please, before removing it again, read the entire 1996 article and discuss what you think is wrong with it on the talk page. Rm999 14:13, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bay Islands (department)

Hello Golbez! Recently Cmm 394 has moved around some articles. This moves are all undone with the exception of the article mentioned above as only admins are able to undo this move. The article was moved to Islas De La Bahia (Deparment) and I've moved it to Islas de la Bahía (department) as a temporary solution. As you are the last one who moved it correctly in January 2006 before this moving around and an admin, maybe you could undo the move by Cmm 394? Thanks! VirtualDelight 19:01, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Looks perfect, thank you very much for your quick help. VirtualDelight 10:24, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Governorates of Egypt

Hi Golbez. Regarding the picture you asked about, a friend of mine created the image and I put the numbers. I believe she traced the lines herself, but it could be that she used an older map or template. Why do you ask? Thanks. --Lanternix 18:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] re:The USA state map

Thanks for the heads up. I'm really ashamed about that because I'm a Virginian. ;) In my defense, I was not the one who created the map. Anyway, take a look at it. I think I've addressed your concerns. I also added DC, in addition to giving the Eastern Shore back to VA. Thanks again.-Andrew c 16:35, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NYC intro

Hi Golbez - I've been a longtime editor of the New York City article and am pleased to see it's received FA status. Nevertheless it's accumulated a lot of bloat along the way. You mention in your edit that the "FAC page" seems to prefer the longer version. I can't find this page and would much appreciate if you could direct me to it. The main talk page doesn't include such a discussion. Below are examples of the bloat excised by my editing. All the material is covered elsewhere in the article and in language that is not so informal and subjective.

"The city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building and the former twin towers of the World Trade Center." [This shouldn't be in the intro]

"From its beginnings on Manhattan Island, the city spread onto nearby Staten Island, western Long Island, and mainland North America. The mainland and many islands of New York are linked by a network of bridges and tunnels, including the Brooklyn Bridge and Holland Tunnel." [The details of bridges and tunnels are covered in the transport section]

"The city was founded as the colony of New Amsterdam by Dutch colonists in the early 17th century, being ceded as part of the Province of New York to the English in 1664. The five boroughs were consolidated into one city in 1898. It has been central to the development of the United States, serving as the nation's first capital city in 1789, and has had a large influence in American media, finance, and politics. It is the site of some of the country's largest celebrations in size, including ticker-tape parades for returning astronauts and the celebrations in Times Square of the end of World War II, but has also seen tragic times, such as the September 11, 2001 attacks." [This is all covered in the history section, which immediately follows the intro. The final sentence is stylistically inelegant.]

[edit] V Foundation

Hi,

I saw that you deleted the article on the V Foundation. I didn't see a reason for its deletion, so I wanted to inquire if you remembered the circumstances. I was going to create the article as a redirect to Jim Valvano's article, but thought I should check and see first. Thanks matt91486 17:30, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of Governors of Kentucky

Thank you for your recent work on List of Governors of Kentucky. As a member of WikiProject Kentucky, I am interested in bringing this list to featured list status, and would very much like to collaborate with you in your efforts. What suggestions do you have for further improving the list? I thought about adding a "Higher offices held" column. Acdixon 14:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Looks better in my opinion. I think good next steps might be to add years of birth and death (eliminating the Living Governors section), a column for higher offices held, and splitting the term start and term end, using full date format as has been done to the last few entries. All of this info can be found at the National Governors Association web site. What do you think? Acdixon 03:34, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I've not found the NGA to be inaccurate, but it's entirely possible. Still, if we fill in the info from there, I can go back to the library and grab the book on Kentucky Governors that I've been using. I could probably verify all the info in an hour or so, making corrections as needed. What do you think? Acdixon 13:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Interesting changes. I like the separate table for higher offices held better than I thought I would. The notes section also looks pretty good to me. We've definitely got a good start going here. I say we finish off the expansion of term dates, and then I really would like to add birth and death years to see what it looks like. That was one of the suggestions I got when I tried to get List of people from Kentucky promoted to featured list. Let's keep rolling; I think this is a featured list in the making! Acdixon 11:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
I get the blame for missing Fletcher. I didn't know he'd ever been a Rep, and didn't bother to look at his page on NGA. Thanks for the catch, and I think the other additions are appropriate as well. Thanks again for your continuing help! Acdixon 14:08, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't have my Kentucky Governors reference at hand (I'll have to get it from the library,) but I do have The Kentucky Encyclopedia. Here's what it says:
Maybe I can get to the library this weekend. I know there is a book there that has term dates for every governor through Julian Carroll, (although it's been known to be wrong as well.) I've got a few other sources I'll try to lay hands on soon as well. Thanks for your diligence. Acdixon 12:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I think you're right about the date issue; no one will notice. I got List of counties in Kentucky promoted to FL, then realized I'd completely left out a county! I might at some point go back and add the birth and death years, but if you're hearing good things from other Wikipedians, I'm willing to give it a shot as is. I hope you'll be able to help me respond to comments, though. I've really got my hands full with an FA nom of Confederate government of Kentucky at the moment. Acdixon 14:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
It's nominated. Add this page to your watchlist. And to the defense of FLC, Kentucky has 120 counties (third most in the country) so missing one is pretty easy. LOL Thanks again for your awesome help. Acdixon 14:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Darn, I knew there was something else I meant to do to this list. I was the one who added that column, and I did so based on KDLA. I've been unable to find any corroborating evidence, and all four you mention are omitted from a list in Powell's Kentucky Governors. I hadn't made the connection that all were presidents of the state senate at that time, so I suspect your hunch is correct. Removing them is the right idea. Thanks. BTW, now that you've gone to the trouble of tracking down which four these were again, I might contact KDLA for clarification. Also BTW, I have a book due at the library tomorrow, so I'll grab the governors book while I'm there. Acdixon 13:45, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure the "as of" date on "Living former governors" is encyclopedic. Most encyclopedias are understood to contain information current as of the date of their publication. I know Wikipedia is different since it doesn't have a publication date, but something about it still doesn't seem right. Could we just remove it with the understanding that someone in WikiProject Kentucky will update the list when one of them dies? Acdixon 14:57, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Assuming no suitable text for the living former governors section is proposed, I still believe we can address this by including birth and death years for each governor and eliminating the section itself. Here's an example of how it would look.
# Name Party Took office Left office Lieutenant Governor[e] Notes
1 Isaac Shelby
(1750 – 1826)
Democratic-Republican June 4, 1792 June 7, 1796 None[1]
60 Ernie Fletcher
(1952 – )
Republican December 9, 2003 Incumbent Steve Pence [2]
Hope you don't think I'm just pushing the issue on this; if we can address it another way, that's fine with me. This is just one suggestion. Acdixon 15:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Solution in place works for me. Whatever gets it promoted. Thanks. Acdixon 17:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Don Murphy

Thank you for fixing that. The fact that there might be a sane Editor like yourself never really entered my thoughts. Appreciated!ThisNeverEnds 07:07, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm curious as to your involvement with this article. Can you explain the reason for this edit? -- Zanimum 15:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
My involvement is purely my distaste for the previous edit summary. --Golbez 15:34, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
So it was entirely that very odd edit summary that made you revert the edit, nothing to do with the actual content? You have never been contacted about this article by Murphy or any of his fans? -- Zanimum 15:58, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
First of all, I'm not entirely sure why it matters. Second of all, I was alerted to his ranting, and decided to see what he was ranting about, and saw that edit summary. I wasn't contacted by him until after I made the edit, on my talk page as you can see. As for the content, I saw the editor had reverted many editors worth of work on the pure derision of "committee", which I disliked. --Golbez 16:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I have to concur with Golbez, there was no reason for the original edit adding that text back into the article. If it was done "by committee", that would denote some level of consensus and furthermore the text just isn't terribly relevant. I say this, by the way, as someone who blocked the above sockpuppet who thanked Golbez.--Isotope23 16:36, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree the content about this fight, whether addressing a real fight or a persistent rumour about one, should only be very minimal in the article. It was one night of his life, not a major element to his personal existence. However, this incident is unfortunately what he received the most press for from major publications, before Transformers.
What committee had removed the content? Unless Arbcom was involved, the only group attention his article received was through the Administrator's noticeboard. For all I know, the person who readded the content was full of themselves, and I don't support them at all. However is it not factual? Is it not citable? -- Zanimum 16:54, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted links to IBISEYE.COM

That was not intended to be spam at all.

We've spent two years developing a web site that shows historic storms (back to 1851) in a completely unique way - including the observed or estimated windfield by quadrant. In addition, we we've generated statistsics on the relative severity of storms based on the number or towns exposed to hurricane force winds along with pop and households (using the 2000 census); in addition, for storms that hit Florida, we calculated the number, type and location and value of properties theoretically exposed to hurricane force winds winds (using the 2006 statewide property rolls as a benchmark.) All this data is updated on the fly when there is an active storms forecast to hit the US.

And there is much more to the web site, including a live news feed, near real-time weather data and NWS alerts and a damage reporting system that is utterly unique.

Of course, we are a commercial site, but we're part of the NY Times newspaper chain and we developed this application on the news side. Our intention all along was to create a hurricane resource that is live, dynamic and well informed.

There are are other links on hurricane pages that are repeated and clearly don't offer the depth and context of IBISEYE.

Please reconsider removing our link.

Cheers, Mo user: motamman

[edit] Three-revert rule warning

Please note that you have reverted the same material in United States three times in a span of less than twenty-one hours: [13], [14], and [15]. You are in danger of violating WP:3RR and are clearly engaged in a single-issue edit war for obscure reasons. As you must know, your advocacy in Talk has fallen far short of achieving a consensus for removal of this material; you have failed to address the specific responses made to your arguments--that there are "extensive articles" on the war (though there are also extensive articles on dozens of other topics covered in the article) and that the costs of other wars aren't mentioned (though, unlike this war, those others are not current); and, while you accuse others of dishonesty in their edit summaries, you wrote an explicitly false edit summary when you claimed that a "daily toll" was being made, rather than a periodical weekly, biweekly, or monthly update, as is done with all of the data in the article of a current nature per our sources. You are clearly a responsible and highly productive editor on other articles; your behavior in this matter is inexplicable and unworthy of your overall contribution to the encyclopedia.—DCGeist 05:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC) Resolved.—DCGeist 07:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your note. I've looked over my initial edit summaries on this matter, and you're right. They were unnecessarily snarky in tone. I apologize. I've gotten in the habit of cracking wise in edit summaries on the heavy-workload anti-vandalism beats of punk rock and heavy metal, just to keep the spirits up of myself and the other couple of involved editors. I brought that habit over to this exchange, where it wasn't appropriate. Best, Dan.—DCGeist 07:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] How to?

Since you have closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Companies in Bangladesh, I can only turn to you to find out. How do put that discussion for a DRV? The discussion page there seems to be for undeletion of articles, not renewed discussion for a huge list of bundled articles. Besides, I'd like have a review of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Greek companies and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Japanese companies, too. Please, help. And, if possible, leave note to my talk page. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 12:44, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, that didn't answer anything

Let me clear one thing very clearly - I am not disputing your decision. I am looking for help, not justification of you decision. Since I have never been to a DRV, and you suggested that it should be taken to a DRV, I thought I should turn to you for help. You see, I really believe that process is important.

I guess I didn't formed the questions right for you to understand. Therefore, I am asking again:

  • Steps to list a new deletion review clearly describe the process to put a deleted article for review. No such process exists for articles that are not deleted. My question: What is the process for nominating an article that was not deleted, but supposedly can be deleted?
  • So far what I have seen on the DRV, single articles are being discussed, as well as single deletion discussions (especially single discussions). My question: How do I nominate a host of articles bundled in, especially when I am proposing a review of at least three previous discussions?

I hope I have asked the right questions this time. Please, leave a note to my talk page. Aditya Kabir 04:50, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Assume good faith, please. I beg you.

I know there was error on my side. I know you are perfect in following the process, and did exactly what needed to be done. I am not challenging anyone here. I am rather following your suggestion - "The result was Speedy close; take it to DRV." I am trying to take it to DRV, and in a meaningful way, following the process as much possible. And, that is why I am asking you this questions. If you don't have an answer, please, tell me if you know someone who has. Wikipedia for me isn't a game of challenges, but rather is place where we should help out each other and reaching consensus. I am asking for "help". And, if I can't seek help from an admin, I don't know who I can turn to. Please, respond. Aditya Kabir 07:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, dear. I guess I needed to be bold in this.
No problem.

We all get stressed at times, and you didn't know me at all. I was a bit lost myself. Now that you've shown me the way I have decided to take the long route towards a consensus, and posted to the Lists Wikiproject (see here). May be I needed to invent process from earlier on, as I have found out that many of the policies actually began as wild attempts at being bold. Aditya Kabir 09:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oklahoma City bombing

Hi, you reverted my change to the introduction of the article. I'm not that great at summarizing information in articles, so how would you recommend summarizing the information in the response and relief section for the intro? I didn't know how else to explain it, so if you could give me a better example to include or if you changed it yourself, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for watching out for the article. --Nehrams2020 18:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

But according to WP:LEAD#Provide_an_accessible_overview, the lead should include some summary of one of the important sections in the article. I think it would be important to make some mention of the information, and that's why I included a summary of some of the facts there. If it was rewritten better, its addition to the lead would be beneficial for the article. --Nehrams2020 20:34, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My unblock of Jamiepgs

Hi, Golbez. I see you've been commenting here about the case of Jamiepgs (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log). Although you haven't complained about my unblocking, I just want to apologise for not notifying you personally. I rushed out shortly after the unblock, and didn't return home for several hours. Sophia, whom I've encountered before, and whom I consider a responsible user, had done a Google search for some of Jamiepgs's strange facts, and thought that this was not a clear case of vandalism. If you had blocked for sockpuppetry or harassment, I wouldn't have undone your block without discussing it with you first, as I'd know that you might be aware of facts that I didn't know about. In the case of a user adding "strange" facts to some articles, I thought the risk was minimal, and I felt that others would be watching out for his contributions. I hope everything will work out. If it doesn't, I shan't object to a reblock. Just want to say that I hope you didn't mind. Cheers. ElinorD (talk) 20:29, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Your linking additions are fine. I am considering returning to side-by-side formatting that I had in an earlier version. At Talk:All-Star_Final_Vote#formatting_.28return_to_side-by-side.29 you can see the current version followed by the old side-by-side version that was considered to wide for most user displays and a newly proposed side-by-side version. I am thinking of going with the new version for two reasons: 1. it makes the page shorter, 2. it makes possible discussion of one continuous chart. What do you think of the new side-by-side format?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 14:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
