[edit] Hey!

You reverted my changes to the article on Adolf Hitler! My history professor told me those little facts! Please don't do that again! User:Icarus999

[edit] Serial spammer?

You accuse me of being a spammer but you have your own referral link for Meatholes on your page, I wonder what Wiki will say about that?

[edit] Not expessing correct POV? Is it possible?

Everybody has a point of view. If I see an error, I am trying to correct it. This is my point of view (POV). There is nothing wrong with this, is it? For example, it is well known fact that Albanian Church was founded by Gregory the Illuminator who was also the founder and patron saint of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Do you disagree with this well-known historical fact? 68.183.5.165 09:29, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S. In the article it was wrongly stated that "Under the Arabs, the Albanian church was subordinated to the Armenian Church...". which is simply not true. 68.183.5.165 09:33, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About "ignoring reality"

This is another example of nonsense. It's true that Azerbaijan was recognised within the territory, which it does not control. In my opinion, this is contradiction. (Nobody is perfect, including UN... If international law ould becontradicts with its own statements, it should be noted accordingly.) 68.183.5.165 09:39, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Another false statement

The Azerbaijani community is led by Nizami Bakhmanov, the head of the executive power of Shusha region.

Nizami Bakhmanov cannot be considered as a leader simply because he was never elected by Azeri community, but was simple appointed by the soviet authorities as executive power of Shusha region, representing 20% of the population of Karabakh at that time. Azeri population of Karabakh was a really small community and it was never orginized and represented. Currently this community does not even exist as a community. 68.183.5.165 09:49, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] United States article nomination

Your recent change of vote to objection because of the readdition of the table and then accusing the article of being unstable is unfounded, because there was never a majority concensus to remove it in the first place. I recommend you change it back to support or offer a different explanation. Thank you.--Ryz05 t 04:09, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

That's fine. Thank you for the response but I hope you will change it back to support.--Ryz05 t 04:24, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
The Largest cities table had been taken out with note marks, so I like to ask you to change your vote back to support. Thank you.--Ryz05 t 17:47, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you for your message. I definitely did not, at any time go to that page. I have no idea who did but it was not from my comupter. 81.131.77.243 20:48, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

So you're not the one that reverted back to an edit of the Charlotte page that had a major deletion in the introductory paragragh, thereby supporting the vandalism of the previous editor? I read that you saw my revertion back to the full and factual intro paragraph as a 'less than cordial edit'. But then your revertion back to the edition that deleted all of the facts about Charlotte and its fortune 500 companies and booming development and growth was a proper one? And you claim to have spend time in the Charlotte area?

I am indeed a Charlottean, have been in the University City area for the past 6 years. I apologize if I did falsely accuse you, I'm not trying to make enemies. I was just upset when I made the edit with all of that info and someone just deleted everything that I typed. And sorry for the language I used, that was inappropriate.

[edit] United States

There was discussion to why the the American Civil War wasn't mentioned in the intro becasue of it's major impact on the US. It caused one editor to oppose the article for FA. Also there is mention of the Revolutionary War and World War I and II in the intro. The Civil War is just as important as all three of these wars and deserves to be mentioned in the intro. [edit] list of articles you created

Hi - I assume you're OK with the list being public. You were simply the last one who asked for one. I guess it might have been good to ask you first, but it is in a sense public knowledge. In any event, sorry if this irked you in any way. -- Rick Block (talk) 18:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pit

I see you've moved the Pit (Kid Icarus) article to Pit (Nintendo). Was there any specific reason? It seems to be the conventional way to name articles about video game characters - such as Link (Legend of Zelda) rather than Link (Nintendo) - and is more precise.

Also, I find it strange that this move was not discussed on the talk page and marked as minor, as Wikipedia:Requested moves clearly stresses that requested moves should be proposed and discussed as part of Wikipedia's procedure. Guermantes 21:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh, cool. You didn't have to just move it back; I just wanted to know why one was preferred over the other. (And it did seem kinda shady, hehehe. Sorry for sounding so accusatory!) Guermantes 21:54, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zarqawi on ITN

We (and the real media) had this in headlines like 5 times. Shouldn't we wait until they're sure this time?--Pharos 07:25, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't recall this "like 5 times". I don't recall it ever being confirmed by the PM of Iraq til this time. --Golbez 07:32, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, it has been on ITN "like 5 times" before. It may be true this time, but I still think we should wait for full confirmation.--Pharos 07:34, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
I actually looked through the edit summaries since last year, and counted one false death notice in November 2005, and a rather dubious caught-and-released notice just the next month, so you'll excuse me if got a little annoyed by the frequency then. I'm pretty sure I remember other similar notices too, that might not have had "Zarqawi" in the edit summary. Anyway, this is now looking more credible, so please excuse me while I turn on CNN.--Pharos 07:58, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Japanese female porn stars nominated for deletion

Hi, Golbez. You've edited at a related article, so I thought you might want to know, List of Japanese female porn stars has been nominated for deletion. Maybe you'd like to contribute to the discussion? -- Dekkappai 03:54, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your honest reply, Golbez.
Probably what you saw when you came to the article was the cut-down blue-link list, which, yes, was nothing more than a category, and then deleted. So, I can see your point now, and I apologize if I seemed abrupt in replying to your reasoning. Yes, a list that does nothing more than a category is useless.
However, as the list had existed for (I am guessing) over a year, it was an extensive red-link list with a few blue. The many red-links were being used as justification for deleting the list. But they were easily removed, as I did, by simply taking out the link, but leaving the name for informational purposes. They could then later be linked if an article was created. In editing the list last night, I noticed several of the red-links actually did have pre-existing articles, but they were mis-linked. This could have been fixed rather than deleting the article. Also, the demand for verifiability could easily be taken care of without deleting the article. And, certainly, I believe some of the names on this unwieldly list will prove unverifiable, and should be removed. However, the sources used for claiming the names were "non-notable" are American. Reminder: This is a list of Japanese actresses.
I really don't see a problem with putting the name on a list, if that name is verifiable. Whether the name deserves a stand-alone article is subject to more demanding criteria, of course.
The user who deleted this list is now picking off individual articles (Kyoko Aizome is his current project) and she's, apparently, even appeared in American videos. God help those who stay in Japan! Dekkappai 16:20, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I disagree with your decision to delete this article. The title may express what the program does, but the stub told what the program's purpose was regardless of the title. In other words, I didn't just rephrase the title but started a genuine stub over a significant computer program. Your thoughts? Ben Tibbetts 02:51, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

I completely understand; I should have made more of an effort to establish such notability in the stub. Thank you for your work. Ben Tibbetts 22:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 2006 Atlantic hurricane season

About the 2006 season, when I typed that Tropical Depression One may become a tropical storm, and could receive the name Alberto, but when you stated that another system might pop up and receive the name before One can, do you have any evidence another system could get Alberto before one. And also can you back it up so there is no confusion. Thank you. Alastor Moody 23:42, June 10 2006 (UTC)

No, no, no! I am saying that if you have evidence that another system is going to form. Right now, we are discussing about Tropical Depression One turning into a tropical storm, not about any other system. Alastor Moody 00:05, June 11 2006 (UTC)
Okay, but as so far as the hurricane season is on progress, there is no other systems yet to form in the Atlantic season. I understand what you mean that another season could form, but currently, this scenario is unlikely to happen. And also, other uses also think that Tropical Depression One can be named Alberto, even the latest NHC forecasts say that. Alastor Moody 00:21, June 11 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Golbez

[edit] Obnoxious editors, one an admin

User:LGagnon and User:Alienus (who is an admin) are engaged in an extreme campaign to discredit objectivism, violating wikipedia policies. LGagnon has deleted others' comments on the talk page [1], and labeled everyone who disagrees with him a "Randroid" or "Randist", even though most people on the talk page aren't "Randists". They want to strip any reference to Rand being a philosopher, despite numerous sources saying so (and the low threshold for stating this, given that someone being a "philosopher" doesn't bias anyone much in favor of their views). They also want objectivism listed as a cult, despite no reputable cult references claiming so; all they have is that people who oppose her call her movement a cult. When it's explained that objectivists aren't cohesive, LGagnon changes the subject and claims that because of their ideas, they're a cult [2]. Please review the Talk:Objectivism_(Ayn_Rand) page's last few topics. MrVoluntarist 03:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Anna Ohura circumference

If her circumference were in fact larger than her height, that would be astounding, no citation required to anyone who can do a basic ratio comparison to any busty model. My conclusion may be based on ignorance of Japanese metric body measurements. In her measurements of T157cm B100(I) W58 H88, the B, W, & H seem the same as American measurements. What's T? [edit] arab subdivisions

I am working a little on arab subdivisons. Some moved things in Lebanon, now they got comma from me. If you want to do it to brackets, go for it. I could not since there where allready redirects. Also found new collisions when translating some of the "al mintaqah XY" to "XY Region". I dabbed with brackets. Additional collisions occured when changing Northern etc. to Ash Shamaliyah etc. The treating of compass direction is not consistent. Not sure what is better, to translate into english or not to translate. I think I prefer not to translate and stick to arab names. Could you move Al Bahr al Ahmar (Egypt) to Al Bahr al Ahmar Governorate? A lot of them are now at X Governorate. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 17:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Introduction to Wikipedia

People just kind of figured it out due to my early additions from the HPC tropical cyclone rainfall climatology. There aren't many meteorologists in this project (that I'm aware of), so I purposely didn't make a big splash when I initially started making edits on here back in January. I think it might be worthwhile if more mets took on some of these pages; I think you'll find they'll take a while to warm up on here as well. Thegreatdr 20:26, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

In looking for information regarding tropical cyclones for an international version of the rainfall climatology using google, I started running across the wikipedia pages which showed up highly due to the hit count. Curious, I checked out if anyone had used any of the information from our rainfall pages, which they had not. I started adding the rainfall graphics to relevant wikipedia pages, which started my contributions to this project. When I have a little free time at home, I add things here and there. [edit] Congressional Articles for Improvement

Hi. I noticed that you were a memeber of ProjectCongress and I was wondering if you had an interest in being an active member in the improvement drive. It's been dead for a few weeks, but I'm attempting to gather around ten people to help on it. It seems kind of hard to improve an article single handedly but with that many people working on it it should be doable. If it returns there would probably be some structural changes (time period, only one article during it), are you interested? I know that you're busy in other parts of the project but with your support and nominations we can also direct our interests toward the articles you're interested in. [edit] Grounds for mediation?

Before I had asked you what to do about User:Alienus for his abusive comments. You suggested mediation, but the description for the purpose of mediation doesn't seem appropriate. I'm not trying to "reach consensus" on anything; he's antagonizing users, and any admin can see this at a glance. Just look at his comments on this one page: [3]. He basically says everyone who doesn't agree with him must be an Objectivist, and if they deny it, he'll pry and ask if they're Libertarians, then make smug remarks about how they must be fellow travelers. I thought we were supposed to go straight to admins about this abuse. MrVoluntarist 19:18, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for informing me about wp:ani. If you had done that the first time, rather than just telling me about mediation, I wouldn't have asked you for help again, you wouldn't have falsely accused me of fishing for a sympathetic admin (you're the only uninvolved one I know), and then you wouldn't have to lecture me about proper procedure after having failed to answer my question the first time around. Better late than never I guess. MrVoluntarist 19:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Nakhichevan

Hey Golbez, Clevelander here,

I'm having trouble with Adil over the Nakhichevan article, specfically a section he wants to submit that he believes proves that the Armenians destroyed their own khachkars in Nakhichevan. See here and for our more recent discussion here. A little background; due to an ongoing dispute, chiefly between Grandmaster and Fadix over how many Armenians Shah Abbas deported from Nakhichevan in 1604, the Nakhichevan article was closed, at my recommendation. Before that, the dispute seemed as though it would never end. Because of this, as I became involved in the khachkars dispute with Adil, I conceded basically because I didn't want to start another lengthy Armenian-Azeri dispute. Since the article has been closed, I've been able to work out the Shah Abbas issue with Grandmaster. However, the khachkars dispute with Adil resurfaced. If you can help that'd be great. -- Clevelander 20:46, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Just a note that I'll have to politely disagree with your revert of my restoration of the deleted comments on Talk:Moon, but given the overall insignificance of the comments, I won't press the issue and have left the page as is. I just feel it is generally best to encourage people not to delete anything from talk pages, because it can provide a very useful record for other editors who might be confused just by looking at the edit history in determining what happened. (Granted, the record is still there in the talk page edit history, but very obscured). I just wouldn't want regret to become a valid reason for removing one's own statements from a talk page. [edit] Golbez, your attention is required

I will not start again accusing Grandmaster of POV pushing, even if I strongly believe he is doing this. But please pay attention to this discussion [4]. I will not waste my time on this, since discussing with Grandmaster from the beggining has been fruitless in my cases. When a position is contrary to his, it will not change a thing that dozens of materials published in peer reviewed publications are provided, he will strongly oppose to its inclusion, even as a position. See for instance what happened in the Nakhichevan article, in which I refrained doing anything, as it has become a total waste of my time. Grandmaster is comparing Bournoutian, who is a US accademician, with a Historian of the republic of Azerbaijan. Bournoutian is even used by such scholars as Justin McCarthy who is qualified as a revisionist, his attempt at the credibility of scholars by using their ethnicity has to be put to an end. He is now suggesting that Bournoutian may have fabricated official records and by doing this he is defaming the scholar in question, which is a crime.

I have provided materials about the 1823 official surveys, those of 1832 and those of 1836. The only materials about the resettlement of Armenians in Karabakh refers to 279 families, and not in Nagorno Karabakh but elsewhere in Karabakh(excluding the mountainous region), two specific area. He claims that I have done nothing other than citing Bournoutian, when Bournoutian research is the one mostly used in the literature of the last 20 years or so. Quoting other works would be simply using Bournoutian by proxy.

Saying I am tired, will be viewed as repetition, I am just reporting this to you insteed of starting to call him a POV pusher. I seriously believe that it is time that someone deal with the situation and explain him really what NPOV means. Regards. Fad (ix) 22:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your Message n the Discussion for NKOA

I am sorry, but I found your message to be very un helpful5. Firstly, please sign after you leave a comment. You should not be told about this and it is expected as a part of proper behaviour. As for any fight; I am not fighting with anyone nor have I ever attacked any other editor or editoes. Let me clarify that I have never engaged in any uncivil behaviour nor while I. Categorically I am not fighting with anyone; maybe I am being attacked by another user, but I am not engaging in any non-academic or uncivil arguments. Unfortunately you made a wrong judgment call, which was uncalled for. Can you tell me how you know are can assume that I dislike another user?

"GM, don't take his bait?" What are you trying to say. That does not seem like a neutral statement. Can you clarify on it, please!? What is the bait? Am I doing something wrong? There is surely something wrong and unbefitting in that type of conduct. Please reframe from such assumtions and ungrounded statments. Thank you. 69.196.164.190

I have responded, and I don't need to be warned TWICE now about an accident on my part. --Golbez 23:36, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
I am sorry, but I must tell you. It is my duty to warn you. Your response was also uncivil and it further deepened tha accusation against me. Promoting fighting is not a proper assesment of another users discussions nor is it civil. I will not discuss this further with you as I have reported this. Thank you. Regards. 69.196.164.190
I'm doing quite the opposite - I'm ending the fight. --Golbez 00:58, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
What fight??? Who is fighting? Can you please tell me. Becuase if you are claiming I was fighting, then you are clearly making wrong accusations or assertions. Who was fighting? 69.196.164.190
The budding fight between you and GM. It ends. Period. If you want to accuse him of being uncivil, do it on his talk page, not on the N-K article talk page. --Golbez 01:11, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
"Budding fight!" That is speculation. There was no fight and I make it clear, becuase a fight takes aggresive action by both sides. I suggest you keep your comments to yourself and take your own advice. Your uncivil was not acceptable and I am glad you stopped after I warned you. I see no reason to continue this conversation as you are beginning to make absurd speculations. I hope you do not make the same mistake(s) again. Regards. 69.196.164.190
One more thing, I have noticed you helped act get the editing moving on that page. I am pleased with that. I did not want to give you a hard time, but uncivil behjaviour is not justified nor can it be with assumtions of budding fights. I am assuming it was unintentional, actually I am sure it was unintentional and I am overloooking it in good faith. No hard fellings from my side. Take care. 69.196.164.190

[edit] South Yemen map

Did you base this off my map? I looks very much like you did, but since it's shrunken a bit I cannot be 100% sure. If so, be advised you cannot release it into the public domain, I only licensed it GFDL/CC-BY, and you must give me credit. Please respond. --Golbez 04:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I assume you are talking about Image:Image-South Yemen governorates.png, but i went ahead and changed both that and Image:YAR-PDRY.PNG to GFDL/CC-BY. If there is any problem, go ahead and edit them respectively. --ThrashedParanoid★ 04:38, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] US state/world map

Hi Golbez! just wondering if you could help with a small problem with Image:BlankMap-World-USA.png. There seems something not quite right about it, especially the northwest/midwest. Minnesota looks a little too wide, and Washington too squashed. I tried several times to get it but just couldnt get it to work. Perhaps you would be able to fix this? Regards, --Astrokey44 22:57, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

It would help if there was a world map at the same projection with US states on it, most world maps i was looking at dont show the states. do you happen to know of one? --Astrokey44 02:50, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I think you should say something; [6]

I think you should take a good long look at the editing history and the comments made next to the edits. I kept my distance, becuase of the nature of the edits, but I think you should say something on the notice board, because these edits/edit wars are systematic, calculated, and part of a grander scale of behaviour. 69.196.164.190

[edit] Armenian Revolution

Hey Golbez, sorry to bring this article up again, but the redirect for the Van Resistance page, Armenian Revolution is causing quite a stir amongst Armenian Wikipedians. Indeed, as I told you earlier the article needs work and this is one of the main obtacles that we need to overcome in order to clean things up. I was just wondering if you could possibly remove this redirect completely from Wikipedia. I also would like the redirect Van Uprising removed as well. Thank you. You know as an anon; I don't always get respect or fair treatment, which is understandable but that does not make it right. Maybe that it why I really appreciated your statments on the NK talk page. I could be wrong, but the term "Mister IP" was very positve. I also am sorry, if for whatever reason you think I might have given you a hard time. Thank you for your moderation and most of all thank you for your morals, principle, and values. Honour is the source of good faith. 69.196.164.190

[edit] Metro and your questions

Well, let's see...

Regarding your question about the choice between center platform and side platform stations, I don't know. Every theory I've heard about how what became what gets broken somewhere. The number-of-entrances theory you suggested is broken by a LOT of stations, as I can think of quite a few center-platform stations with two entrances, and quite a few side-platform stations with one entrance. I've also been told at one point that center platform stations are deep-bored while side platform ones are cut/cover. I know a few center platform stations (Union Station comes to mind) that break this rule.

The only stations that I know the reasoning about the platform configuration for certain are Rosslyn and Pentagon, where they were designed as bi-level stations due to the junctions at those locations to avoid an at-grade crossing.

As for the Maryland stations, particularly along the A Route, I think it had to do with the way the rock was at those locations, since those stations are deep-bored.

Also, as a side-note, the only station name that I outright reject is "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport", due to the way Metro was arm-twisted into renaming it at their own expense. The other name changes, I don't mind so much. One look at my site, where all the names are current except for National Airport, confirms that. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I want to report this Behaviour

I merely point something out on the discussion page and user:AdilBaguirov attacks me and my nationality. He then insults my country men as shown here 7. His behaviour is totally uncalled for and he has been warned in the past. 69.196.164.190

You can see his comments here 8

What does this statment have to do with anything and why does he bring up Iran? He writes to me on the talk page, "International NGOs protest far more against Iran and its treatment of minorities of Iran, should I provide a few links about that?" It is obviously an attack, because he is biased to the point of blindness, where he beleives just because I cited a relavent source about the treatment of Prisoners in the Republic of Azarbaijan that refered to the TMR as a Republic and not an Autonomous Republic. I am not upset about him bring up the fact that NGOs cite Iran as breaching human rights, I am upset at him deliberately using this as an insult in a totally unrelated conversation. It was simply spiteful. And also not everyone is a blind nationalist to the point where the fabricate information like him.

He goes on to say, "Anyways, as I said, it is unclear what you tried to say or oppose with your above post, and how it dispoves even 1% of what I wrote."

And the most ironic part for someone who misrepresents the facts in a systematic manner, "Let's speak with facts and knowledge, not emotions and biases."

It is all on Talk:Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic. He has also been disruptive on other pages with myself and other users. I am really getting tired of his behaviour, along with user:Baku87, and GM. I don't think I can assume good faith with any of them and to be honest I don't think GM is on vacation, I think he is sockpoppeting and I have very good reasons to think so. 69.196.164.190

[edit] In the news again

Hi Golbez,

I liked your version of the match fixing scandal snippet as use of the past tense for a previous event is correct, and avoids the issue we've been 'debating' so much of late! However, someone's changed it back to the present since then so if, by the time you read this, no one else has done so, please could you revert that part back to your own version? Cheers — SteveRwanda 10:09, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh, and just for the record "Italy win the World Cup" is completely correct in the UK while "Italy wins the World Cup" is wrong. It all comes down to the same issue dicussed before, namely that teams are always plural. And since the debate is only about what seems normal, rather than what's 'right' or 'wrong', I'm not sure that convention in itself was justification for the American Revolution, though I dare say you had other reasons as well :-) SteveRwanda 10:09, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Dear Golbez,

Both me and Francis strongly believe that your continued involvement on the NK page will greatly contribute to its quality, as it has before. Please do not let uncivil remarks by an editor keep you away from it--allowing that would undermine the very concept of integrity on Wikipedia. No single editor has the right to decide who enforces the Wikipedia policies on a page and who does not. Please continue your valuable participation on the page.--TigranTheGreat 21:51, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NK Page.

Hi, Golbez. Sorry for bothering you regarding the NK page again. But remember the part about "NK needing two moderators to prevent POV pushing"? Given the renewed influx of POV pushers on the Talk page, I think it needs your involvement as well. Francis can't be left isolated, especially not while he is getting reverted right on the talk page. And especially not when he is getting threatened (such as here [9]). Oops! Thanks for correcting my error. It even states on the incorporated territory article the point which confused me:

The term "incorporated" in this sense does not refer to the act of creating a civil government entity (e.g. a city or a town).

As far as I can tell, the term insular area includes all incorporated territories anyway, maybe including Palmyra Atoll as well. Sorry to jump the gun there. —Twigboy 21:48, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Links

Your arguments and rationalizations are very weak. The rule where a person cannot add a link to his own site is totally unenforceable. Anyone can login as anonymous and add a link to his/her site. What are you doing about those links? How do you know if the person is or is not the owner of the external link's Web site? I have never tried to deny nor hide that it is my site.

If making money from my site means having a few Google ads which yield only a few dollars per month, then what about all those links to much more commercial sites? Corporate sites, official local government sites which include ads for local businesses, etc., etc. Are you gonna delete those links too? They are all making money from their sites. And much more than I do.

As for having my links on 50 pages, it goes to show how much content my site has for Japan. The vast majority of Japan-related articles are stubs, and viewers will never get much info out of them. My links lead to more pictures and information which Wikipedia will never be able to achieve for those stubs. Photojpn.org 06:23, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

FYI - I see both sides of this and urge you to consider some sort of compromise. I've responded on Phil's talk page. Phil is a professional photographer, living in Japan. The 30 or so photographs he's previously uploaded (which he considers his "seconds") are some of the best images Wikipedia has of Japan. The Wikipedia:External links guidelines are only guidelines, and (as I argue on his talk page) I don't think what Phil is doing violates the spirit of these guidelines. I don't know, but I imagine he doesn't derive a significant amount of income from his website. Please add your comments on his talk page. -- Rick Block (talk) 19:01, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

I noticed that you just deleted The Rio Carnival 2007 - Hold your heart on!. What was the criteria for the deletion? (I was a little confused by your delete log summary.) Regards, alphaChimp laudare 04:44, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the nice response. Here's my problem (hope you excuse my strict read of CSD). Do we actually have a url for the copyvio? I do think it should be deleted, but I'm having my doubts about whether it meets CSD. alphaChimp laudare 04:51, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure it's a G4, though. G4 is only for articles deleted through the XfD process that are "substantially identical" to the original. (I actually got really messed up on this once.) If the previous versions were speedily deleted, it doesn't meet G4, only the previous CSD criteria (A7, I guess). alphaChimp laudare 05:02, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

A few nights ago, I created French language pages for Fundy National Park (11 ici) and Kouchibouguac National Park (12 ici) using French language templates of the IUCN (UICN) protected areas. On both of the English pages, the dots look like they are in the correct spot, but for the French language articles, the longitude is way off. I wrote a question on the French bistro (13 ici) to get help, but so far have had no response. Can you help me out or point me in the direction of help/someone who can help? Merci in advance. Hi. I just wanted to say I feel bad about this, as I had to some extent mentored this guy since I gave him a vandal warning a few weeks ago, which was as thoroughly well-merited as your block is. Although I did recently warn him about his conduct on User:Tom Harrison's talk page, I should maybe have been even more forceful. I did have concerns about his POV, and should have warned him about that. I hope he will learn from this experience and I thank you for doing what you did. 48 hours seems like reasonable reflection time for him. Best wishes --Guinnog 13:21, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

You'll notice it's deliberately left out of PTS timelines for a reason. Unless an official landfall is announced by an NMHS, we usually ignore it due to the many small Pacific islands. [edit] Thanks

Thanks for your kind words, Golbez. Don't worry, I've never taken Wikipedia seriously enough to quit in a pouty huff of frustration or disappointment. It's just that articles like those have prompted me to realize that a lot needs to be done before Wikipedia is worth any more of the small amount of time that I put into it while procrastinating at work or at school. I also think that the RfA process and the anonymity of the individual members lead to unrivaled pettiness. The RfA process tends to attract the most process-oriented and mediocre populists, whereas anonymity allows for a lot of gaming of the system and rudeness. Focusing on process is not a bad thing, but it creeps me out to hear some admins speak of "The Project," and act like the worst of trolls as they wikilawyer around various policies and guidelines so as to boost their own egoes, or whatever. Disagreement is met with platitudes and condescension. Let's be honest: some of the most involved people, here, are quite anti-social. This is an escape for them; they're just avatars. It's a substitute for actual human interaction (which, I wager, they have failed to grasp the basics of). I'm not taking cheap pot-shots at the Internet geek stereotype, either -- that's really how it seems. It's not exactly my cup of tea.

I'm sure we'll bump into each other again online. Until then, best of luck! --AaronS 18:43, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Apparently, i am the editor who editted the common languages in Turkey[16], though not the one who inserted 'Common languages' in the template. It was added on many counties' articles and i found it pretty interesting to list which these languages are. I'd also done it in Greece's article [17], in case u think i had "other" intentions... However, if all agreed to include these languages in the template, i doubt if the languages i added wouldn't be mentioned. Regards --Hectorian 01:40, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey, no problem;). I just wanted to explain myself... [edit] Query at WikiProject Country subdivisions

Hi,
I'd be grateful for your input as a participant in this WikiProject to the above linked; thanks!
Best wishes, David Kernow 23:09, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

So basically, you're asking if "subdivisions" is a poor term? OK, I'll agree.

Wow, that was fast!  So, to confirm, you'd go with "division" and "divisions"...?  David 23:14, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

"Divisions" is too generic. There needs to be a qualifier. So yes, "administrative divisions" is the next best thing. However, if they have names, then use those - states of, provinces of, with 'administrative divisions of' being kind of an umbrella article, if needed. (Also, for things like Azerbaijan which has two types of top-level divisions, 'administrative divisions of azerbaijan' would be the best option, with perhaps a later article about the structure, powers, etc. of rayons, sahars, etc).

This is also my thinking as a result of looking over this area. If/when you have a moment, you might like to scan this and this; both nearly ready to debut in the encyclopedia – with, I think, amended titles!  Yours, David 23:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
PS I have copied this to the WikiProject page linked above and will continue responding there. Hope that's okay.

[edit] Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic

Hi Golbez. Could you please move the article Talysh-Mughan Republic back to the correct title Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic? Clevelander moved the article without citing any sources, while according to BBC it was actually called Talysh-Mughan Autonomous Republic (TMAR). Thanks in advance. [edit] Not wheel-warring!

...but... I've permablocked Fix Bayonets! (talk contribs count) for his/her legal threats to another user. You gave the user ample opportunity to withdraw the threats or to suggest a change in editing patterns for the future. But they responded with louder demands that suggested strongly that they had no intention of backing down from the threats and no intention of resuming/beginning normal editing. So I have permablocked them for it. See block log. If you don't agree, please unblock/reshape block/etc. This was just my 2c worth on the matter after they asked for an unblock. Would you like to talk to User:Jersyko about not continuing to fight a blocked user?. Cheers! ЯEDVERS 20:43, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh heh :o) Yeah, I agree... making things "worse" doesn't count. I can see you're a rouge admin like me (ie, an entirely normal human being) but there was a chance you weren't and could, at this moment, be whooping my arse on ANI. So I did have to ask. After I'd blocked the guy/gal, of course. Worked out well for all of us, I think :o) ЯEDVERS 20:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
I'll stop my discussion with him/her. My hope was, as yours was initially, that the user would calm down and actually want to have a rational discussion. It kinda worked that way, but not really. Anyway, I'll take my leave from making comments to the user completely. · j e r s y k o talk · 20:46, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Autonomous "entity", Subnational "entity"...

Hi again Golbez,
Thought I'd sound you out before going any further: Are you a fan of either of the above descriptions (as in the former Autonomous entity or Category:Lists of subnational entities, etc)...?  Per my rationale for moving Autonomous entity to Autonomous area, it seems to me that neither imply that it is a region or area that is being addressed; a human being might be described as an "autonomous entity", a local company as a "subnational entity", etc. If "autonomous area" an improvement for the former, how about "subnational division" (or, perhaps more accurately, "national/subnational administrative division") for the latter...?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, David Kernow 06:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
...PS Have just remembered that "subnational entity" used for disambiguation, so perhaps "subnational division" instead...

"Autonomous area" does seem much better than "autonomous entity". And I'm not in love with "subnational entity", division probably works better. --Golbez 06:47, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks again for your super-speedy response!  I won't move on anything now – I'll find some more opinions – but at least I know the idea is not a total non-starter. Best wishes, David 06:55, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Territorial evolution maps

A minor nitpick on the territorial evolution of the U.S. maps - North Carolina didn't cede what is now Tennessee until 1790, so on the 1789 maps it should still be part of NC. Kmusser 14:49, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank. Also check State cessions, the gap between when NC agreed to the cession and when it actually took effect may be part of the confusion.Kmusser 18:57, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

For the state cessions map I was having a hard time figuring out a good way to show the NY and VA cessions, they overlap with each other and the cessions of other states - I may experiment a bit more with it. Also planning on tackling the individual colony maps soon.

On the territorial evolution maps - on northern MN, I was under the impression that the border between Lake of the Woods and Lake Superior wasn't disputed, folks just weren't sure where it was until that region actually got explored - I haven't done any research on it though so I may be wrong - at any rate though that border was resolved by the 1818 treaty, not the 1842 one, so you are showing it as disputed for too long. Oregon is probably fine as it is, if you wanted to be more exact you could say claimed by Britain, Spain, and Russia adding a U.S. claim with the LA purchase. Spain and Russia never really pursued their claims to the area though and formally gave up their claims in 1821 and 1825 respectively. Kmusser 04:59, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I did a bit of searching and couldn't find anything about the MN-Canada boundary east of Lake of the Woods ever being disputed so that should probably come off the maps, I'm planning on taking the "Boundary uncertain" off of mine as well. Kmusser 23:58, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to Wikistalk (I have Kmusser's talk page on my watchlist). The reason for the uncertain border in northern Minnesota is explained in the Northwest Angle article. Basically, the border was originally set to be on a line between the northern point of Lake of the Woods running west to the Mississippi River, which was thought to have a source north of there. After someone discovered that Lake Itasca, the source of the Mississippi, is actually south of Lake of the Woods, the boundary was later fixed at the 49th parallel, leaving a small section north of the 49th parallel (hence the Northwest Angle). Hope this helps. --Elkman - (Elkspeak) 04:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Take a look at follow up on my talk page, looks like your maps are good as they are :-) Kmusser 23:02, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Assistance

A few weeks ago you blocked editor Fix Bayonets! for repeated vandalism, legal threats, and other offenses. He's back at the vandalism again on Neo-confederate. It involved repeated RVs to his claim that the prefix "neo" implies a connection with Naziism. And various other off-the-wall POV edits. Requests from several editors on the Talk page for him to substantiate or desist have gone unheeded.Verklempt 02:59, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I have asked Jerseyko to help informally mediate the Neo-confederate article, as I think he tries to listen to both sides. I initially did post some of my objections on the talk page. But, I didn't do a good job in "following through." And yes, I did get frustrated with Verklempt's continuing reverts. By the way, many of the so-called "off-the-wall" edits Verklempt references, including the "neo-Nazi" comparison, were actually made by prior Wikipedian editors (as is noted and documented on the article's Talk page).

In any event, I am sorry... I should have asked for help sooner. Thanks again,--Fix Bayonets! 07:48, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why did you delete my page before researching term?

Pacific Dove is not a neologism. Zenaida asiatica is called a White-winged Dove in North America, and Z. meloda is called Pacific Dove in South America. Treating both as one, as the article on White Winged Doves does, is downright wrong (see Wikispecies, http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Zenaida_meloda). In fact, information on cooing in the White-winged Dove article is especially wrong -- one of the differences cited as grounds for the split is the radical difference in cooing melody between Z. meloda and Z. asiatica. Also, there is a corresponding Spanish article on Z. meloda.

At most, you should have questioned my use of Pacific Dove as opposed to Peruvian Dove or whatever ohter nomenclature you prefer; but deleting it off the bat is very disrespectful. --Rcgy 18:53, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maps for Chad

Hi Golbez. I've noted that the awesome work on maps of even small or neglected countries you've done; can I implore you to do a similar work with Chad? I'm trying to expand the coverage of the country through Wikipedia:WikiProject Chad, but I feel myself frustrated by my utter incapacity to deal with images, and in particular I feel the need of maps of the administrative divisions. Can you do something with this, or advice me where to ask? Thanks in advance for any hint. Ciao,--Aldux 14:46, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't dare to hope so much!! As you said there's a lack of information about the regions; but after searching a lot I found this map [19], unfortunately a bit small, but uptodate, with the new regions and departments (maybe consulting the article Regions of Chad can make it a bit easier to vision). Hope it helps. Ciao, and thanks again!--Aldux 00:12, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I was afraid this would emerge, what a pity. :-( Unfortunately, to the moment we have only the wiki maps of the pre-1999 prefefectures Image:Chad Prefectures numbered 300px.png, and, as usual, the web is not very generous with Chad. Thanks for your efforts; I really appreciated them. Ciao,--Aldux 12:16, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Great Work |10}}! After controlling the map, I'd say I feel absolutely certain for 16 of the 18 regions; what I'm a bit uncertain of (but it's probably simply that department that is small) is the Mandoul Occidental, the one with Koumra (on the map) as capital. Thanks again! Ciao, Aldux 10:47, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
I've more or less located where the 3rd Moyen-Chari department is, Grande Sido, or better its capital Maro; and its seems weirdly to be in exactly the same area of Mandoul Occidental, with the capital Koumra. I suspect the external map for sloppiness didn't separate Grande Sido and Mandoul Occidental. As for the rivers, don't worry: confronting with other maps, I'm pretty sure that you didn't follow the rivers in drawing the borders.--Aldux 01:10, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Sure, it's great.}}--Aldux 19:59, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I was obviously just kidding! How would I even know where these guys are from? In any case, many countries have started monitoring the online activities of their citizens, and to support terrorists would be pretty incriminating, even if these people aren't really connected with Jihadist outfits. [edit] Italy part II

I seriously need your help and any other admin that will see through this nonsense. We are making edits to correct a situation regarding incorrect naming convention. The article used to be named correctly and a year ago, it was changed to a biased POV name that doesn't even exist in any proper or official lists as per the Italian government, United Nations, etc. There are countless references we have posted as to the proper name ("Trentino-Alto Adige") and alternate name ("Sudtirol") - whereas NOWHERE does the name "South Tyrol" exist. These pages were being changed back to the correct name, now I am being targeted by admins and they are reverting such changes. Can you help intervene? Thank you. [edit] US art.

As I understand the 9/11 subcat. of the art. on the US to likely be a controversial one, let me first say that any preconceived notion of yours as to who I am, and what my incentive was for editing the section, might be reasonably based on past experiences with ulterior motives. That being said, I genuinely wanted to insert two bits of, IMHO, significant info: the mention of The Pentagon(<|===CAPITALIZED) having been attacked on 9/11(since the subcat. is dedicated to the events and reprocussions of that day), and the mention of the fact that the war in Afghanistan is still an ongoing event. If any of this is POV, please let me know (based upon your edit summary on the page, I will be anticipating some mild condescension). Thank you. --Jackbirdsong 20:26, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ITN comments

I'd like to commend your dealings with ITN on the main page. I've noticed more than a few instances where you seem to be the only person dealing with queries, and handling them well. I think you are really holding to what ITN is; a place to show off where we have Wikipedia articles that have been updated with current events - not a news ticker. To be honest, it would probably avoid confusion if the section were renamed altogether. People seem to assume it should be just today's news or the absolute top 5 most important stories in the world. They don't seem to appreciate why the mix there seems haphazard sometimes. That said, I'm all for positive discrimination when the mix of articles is determined by an Anglo-centric editing base.

Sorry to say I am not likely to get more involved myself; I just don't have the time (or rather, when I do my interests are elsewhere). I suspect this is the reason there aren't more admins updating the template.

[edit] Desperately Need help on content blanking and POV editing of Tamilnet

I have been making some edits to Tamilnet which have been repeteadly reverted with POV and propaganda from the ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka without any qualifications of the text by user User:Snowolfd4. I have added a huge list of justifications for my changes. But this user has never bothered to answer them and gone ahead given very terse statements for his reverts. I have in turn added citations from a reputable source, namely a journal article on Tamilnet.com by Whitaker, Mark P. "Tamilnet.com: Some Reflections on Popular Anthropology, Nationalism, and the Internet" Anthropological Quarterly - Volume 77, Number 3, Summer 2004, pp. 469-498 George Washington University Institute for Ethnographic Research. He has just reverted my citations claiming in effect that this peer-reviewed journal article is the following:

According to Official WP policy Personal websites, blogs, and other self-published or vanity publications should not be used as secondary sources. That is, they should not be used as sources of information about a person or topic other than the owner of the website, or author of the book. The reason personal websites are not used as secondary sources — and as primary sources only with great caution and not as a sole source if the subject is controversial — is that they are usually created by unknown individuals who have no one checking their work. They may be uninformed, misled, pushing an agenda, sloppy, relying on rumor and suspicion, or even insane; or they may be intelligent, careful people sharing their knowledge with the world. Only with independent verification by other sources not holding the same POV is it possible to determine the difference.

I desperately need administrator intervention on this. This is getting to be very frustrating when a user claims that a peer-reviewed journal article is an unreliable source and then goes ahead and blanks legitimate cited contents.

This user has been doing a whole lot of blanking of my edits both on Tamilnet and a whole lot of other pages. Elalan 03:28, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

I am aware that you've only done two reverts, friend. However, I must ask--if this issue is truly relevant, why will you not discuss the edit on the relevant talk page. Edit summaries are not the best place to give a reason for the edit if it requires an in-depth discussion--that's what the talk pages are for.

I would like to know what became of your objection to Saugeen Stripper being redirected. Allergic Asthma has recently been redirected to a relatively long article entitled Asthma. Alec - U.K. 13:36, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prepping for New Congress

Nice job preparing these articles for the 110th Congress. While you're there, can you delete the bit at the beginning of most of the articles stating that the delegations is, for example, "solidly red" or "solidly blue"? I just changed it here, for example. —Markles 14:17, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the info on 3RR. In this case it is clear cut, daylight robbery, cut and paste of a whole section and the perpetrator is so far uncommunicative. Cheers. Bubba hotep 10:06, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hitler

Hi, saw your recent change to the Hitler page. I've worked on a number of the segments in Nazi-era-related pages that contain information about the genocide figures. I just wonder though if we're not ending up with pages that are "over-neutralised" - to my mind, the AH page intro now reads almost as if the Fuhrer just did some economic fixing, murdered a few million jews and other people - and that's it. Do you not think a little more detail on his crimes there would be a good idea? MarkThomas 10:12, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Persistent and unending dispute with Mr Conradi

I am, apparently, a newbie at this kind of dispute resolution. I have no idea what to do, but ask you, since you have dealt with Mr Conradi before, to please see [21] and advise me what the correct procedure is. I have endeavoured to correct material errors in his edits, as well as to remove inappropriate references to myself, and he simply reverts every time. He is well over the three-reverts rule. I am probably also over the rule, but my reverts have in every case attempted to correct and improve the article, while his have simply been gainsaying. Please help. Thank you. -- Evertype· 13:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Block

Your block of User:King Mario made me unable to edit...my own user page! On my 1-year anniversary of being a Wikipedia editor...I can't edit my user page because you blocked him! Would you please just delete him instead of block him? TTV (MyTV|PolygonZ|Green Valley) 17:36, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, and please get Werdnabot to archive this regularly. -.- TTV (MyTV|PolygonZ|Green Valley) 03:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about any rudeness implied, but your page is 107 KB with 156 sections. Even the boilerplate wants you to archive this monstrosity. TTV (MyTV|PolygonZ|Green Valley) 03:50, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
