Anyway, my name is Andrew, and thus far, I've made nearly 40,000 edits. My editing focus has changed over time, though many of my edits have been relevant to the two places I've spent most of my life - Washington, DC, and the Charlotte area of North Carolina. Specifically, I've done 95% of the work on the Washington Metro and its stations. I've also done much work on the hurricane articles, establishing (mainly with Cyrius) the standards and practices for the articles of all tropical cyclones and their seasons. At present, my focus is getting all of our lists of American governors up to featured status; at present, there are 8 done (not including Delaware).
I have also, curiously, become involved in Caucasian issues, namely the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. I've generally been accepted as a neutral administrator, though folks from each side occasionally accuse me of being Armenian or Azeri. (Neither is true) Amusing.
They made me an Administrator on September 29, 2004.
The key is to remain calm and unpolitical... I am here, at the moment, to add information, not to engage in fights. Anything can be cleaned up by others. I find it easier to walk away from pages rather than get personally involved; the way of Wikipedia is that all issues will be resolved in time. There are always other articles I can work on.
TIP: If you find your wikistress is reaching high levels, or if you're hitting your watchlist every 20 seconds, here's a tip: Hit alt-x instead. I've found that browsing random pages and making edits on them is not only a great way to gain knowledge, but it's a nice way to contribute and not be too emotionally involved at the moment. But, only if you have a lot of time to spare. If you're using alt-L to procrastinate, stop immediately.
Somewhere along the line, I decided to make maps of the provinces/departments/first level divisions of the world. A whole suite is available at commons:User:Golbez/maps. I've also created the notion of historic timeline maps on Wikipedia, creating the articles on the territorial evolutions of USA, Canada (featured), and Mexico (featured).

About my name
Yes, it's from a video game. But I'm not one of those people who just runs around with a video game name thinking he's cool. I'm not cool at all. ...
Anyway, way back in 1991/1992, when I first joined Prodigy, I hooked up with the "Final Fantasy fan clubs" (what do you expect, I was 11) and, needing a name, and always being horrible (still to this day!) at making up my own name, I took the first name from Final Fantasy 2 that I saw wasn't used - Golbez.
It's grown to just be the nickname I use. That happens after using the same name for nearly 20 years. *shrug*

Barnstars
"I am not 100% sure. I think that that map is the first one in whole Internet to be written in Haitian. Not in English, nor in French. That is amazing!"

For noticing that a new comprehensive lead at Mario (that lived for only 8 minutes before it was dubbed vandalism by another Wikipedian, and reverted) was not actually vandalism, and subsequently reverting the reversion. Bugmuncher 03:51, 9 June 2006 (UTC) |

Admin policies
Let me put these right out here:
- No mercy for vandals. If you vandalize a page, you will probably be warned. If you vandalize again with fluffy stuff, you will be warned again. On the other hand, if you vandalize maliciously, you will be blocked, often on first offense. I will consider a clean slate after a month, removing old warnings from anyone, in case the IP has changed hands.
- You can always contest any action with me. Please do.
I have other ideas that I need to formulate and present to the population at large, in particular the second version of my Semantic Wikipedia propsal.
