Talk:Gold Coast Water

[edit] I will contribute!!!
This is frustrating me. I did an assignment on (on Gold Coast water management) in school a few years back of about 1500 words, for which I received an "A". I am currently in the process of upending my bedroom for it. Wish me luck. If I don't return in a couple of day's, call search and rescue. ~AQjosh~
[edit] context
Maybe the person who placed the context template can explain exactly what the problem is. At present the article explains exactly what Gold Coast Water is. --WikiCats 10:54, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Since there has been no explanation for the context template it has been removed. --WikiCats 08:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gold Coast City Council
Gold Coast Water is a directorate of the Gold Coast City Council as per their website [1], therefore reference to the Gold Coast City Council in this article is legitimate. It is owned and run by the Gold Coast City Council. Do you have a guideline that says that the logo of an organisation can not be used? --WikiCats 11:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Fair_Use#Policy, per rule 3. Cause as it seems, the GCCC logo is used for decoration rather than illustrating the organisation in question. For example, Brisbane Transport uses their logo, but doesnt use the BCC logo, or the Brisbane Broncos NRL team, doesnt use a NRL logo on their article. However, there may be some logos, that may incorporate part or all of the parent on the one image (For example, the QR Citytrain logo which may incorporates QR logo in the same image), those examples are generally okay to use as it portrays the subsidiary company/business (of the parent company) in question. In the meantime, I'll be removing the image again, as that only portrays GCCC (and not the water company), and therefore looks like decoration. --Arnzy (talk • contribs) 12:47, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Neither of your quoted guidelines say that the logo of the organisation the article is about can not be used. You need to produce a guideline that says that the logo of the organisation in question can not be used. You may not understand exactly what this entity is. Would you like me to obtain an affidavit from them? The logo appears on every page of their site. Please check it out. Gold Coast Water is hosted by Gold Coast Councilbecause it is Gold Coast Council. --WikiCats 14:06, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- It is further outlined under Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, which per rule 8, and quote The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose. , which seemed to be the case for the GCCC logo being used as "decoration" in the Gold Coast Water article. --Arnzy (talk • contribs) 14:38, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
You don't understand. Gold Coast Water is part of the Gold Coast Council. It is controlled and run by the Gold Coast Council. I can't be much clearer. (It was not added as a decoration.)
It must be made clear that it is part of the GCCC.
I'm still happy to get you an affidavit. --WikiCats 15:40, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
The is the corporate (or administrative) structure of my Council: Gold Coast City Council - Corporate Structure The water department is one of many council departments. --WikiCats 15:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
This is the structure of the departments of the Gold Coast City Council:
--WikiCats 02:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Further to that, all the Gold Coast Water web pages are hosted on the Gold Coast Council web site and every Gold Coast Water web page has the Gold Coast City logo at the top.[ http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/gcwater/] --WikiCats 03:02, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- The fact still remains however, that the GCCC logo only represents the Gold Coast Council alone, and not the water company. Thus unfortunately, it was there for decorative reasons. There are not many articles that have the parent company logos on a subsidiary's article. For example, Virgin Blue is majority owned by Tolls, yet the article doesnt have the parent company's logo on the Virgin Blue article.
- Alternatively, instead of using both logos, the article can refer to the GCCC as a sentence (which is already done in the intro), or under "External Links". Fortunately, there are some logos that may incorporate part or whole of the parent company's logo, example being QR Citytrain. I wont oppose to a custom-made GCCC-GC Water logo with both logos in the same image, provided it is tagged per the proper licenses (ie Fair use). --Arnzy (talk • contribs) 05:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Done. --WikiCats 06:29, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
