Coordinates: 17°10′02″N 82°17′05″E / 17.167222, 82.284722 Gollaprolu is a village north-east of Pithapuram in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh in south India, about 130km north of Vishakhapatnam[1] and is on the rail line between Madras and Calcutta. The nearest town (25 km) is Kakinada, the nearest train stop (16km) is Samarlakota (also called Samalkot), the nearest air strip (45 miles) is Rajahmundhry and the nearest airport (100 miles) is Visakhapatnam (Vizag).

Gollaprolu is a major panchayat and mandal headquarters. It got its first mandal parishad seat when it was introduced in 1987 under the then chief minister N.T.Rama Rao. Dr.Hemanadha Rao Koppula was elected as the first Mandal president. He served his term from 1987 to 1992. Though a headquarters, it did not have its own mandal office building until 2005, then it was built by the then mandal parishat president Sri Mogali Subrahmanyam(Chitti Babu).

The Mandal of Gollaprolu had a population of 81,752 in 2005,[2] and 102,170 in 2007. Gollaprolu itself has more than 31,000 voters.

The region is cyclone-prone, and the people are mostly landless agricultural workers.[3] The villagers are known for growing one of the most sought after varieties of hot pepper[1] and is famous for the production of onions, ground nuts, cotton and rice.

The village school was founded in 1954, built on land donated by philanthropist Mrs. Subhadra Gavarasana and is named "Dr. Malireddi Venkataraju Memorial Prathamika Paathasaala," in memory of her father.[1] It provides Telugu-medium coeducational education for about 400 students with ages 6 to 10.[3] English medium education is currently provided by a few private schools.

There are two high schools in this town: Z.P.B.H school and the Girls high school. The Z.P.B.H high school was built by Sri Shate Peraji Lumbaji in the early 1950s. Madhuri vidyala is also providing english medium school till 10th class. It is very famous school in the nearest villages.
