Goldry Bluszco

In Eric Rücker Eddison's fantasy The Worm Ouroboros, Goldry Bluszco is the brother of the hero and one of the chief lords of Demonland. The search for Goldry Bluszco occupies most of the narrative of the book.

Goldry Bluszco is described as follows

(B)ehold... yon lord that bulks mighty as Hercules yet steppeth lightly as a heifer. The thews and sinews of his great limbs ripple as he moves beneath a skin whiter than ivory; his cloak of cloth of gold is heavy with jewels, his tunic of black sendaline hath great hearts worked thereon in rubies and red silk thread. Slung from his shoulders clanks a two-handed sword, the pommel a huge star-ruby carven in the image of a heart, for the heart is his sign and symbol. This is that sword forged by the elves, wherewith he slew the sea-monster, as thou mayest see in the painting on the wall. Noble is he of countenance, most like to his brother Juss, but darker brown of hair and ruddier of hue and bigger of cheekbone. Look well on him, for never shall thine eyes behold a greater champion than the Lord Goldry Bluszco, captain of the hosts of Demonland. (page 12)

Goldry Bluszco has two brothers, Lord Juss and Lord Spitfire. Their parents are not named. Unlike his bachelor brothers, Goldry was betrothed to marry Princess Armelline of Goblinland, first cousin to King Gaslark (she does not appear in the book; see page 400).

Glodry's castle is called Drepaby though it is never described. It was burned twice, first by the Ghouls, second by the Witchland armies led by Corsus.

Goldry Bluszco challenges the King of Witchland, Gorice XI to a wrestling match to determine the fate of Demonland. Goldry wins the match and kills the Witchland king in the process. Shortly thereafter the new king of Witchland, Gorice XII casts a powerful spell and summons an infernal spirit which carries Goldry away.

Most of the remainder of the book shows the attempts by his brothers and their heroic companion, Brandoch Daha, to rescue Goldry. It turns out he was magically transported to the top of a mystical mountain, Zora Rach, which cannot be climbed and whose peak is surrounded by unceasing flames. Here Goldry is in a dream and time does not pass for him until his brother Lord Juss rescues him.

He commands one wing of the armies of Demonland in a final battle with Witchland. In the last battle he is driven back by Lord Corund's soldiers and the ships of Demonland are nearly destroyed before Brandoch Daha and Lord Juss turn the tide of battle.

Goldry Bluszco was the hero in the early drawings of Eddison but in the book he is largely off-stage and does little other than win the wrestling match.
