[edit] Original Story
The story is about a little boy named Hiro who accidentally found a gold lighter which turned out to be the giant Golden Warrior Gold Lightan with the mission to save the earth from every invasion of King Ibalda. Gold Lightan joined forces with his robot teammates to ruin the plots of King Ibalda and destroyed invading alien robots by using his surpassing hands and leg strikes. Hiro, the boy, also founded a group called the "One Pack Rangers" with his friends.
[edit] Concept
The robot is usually disguised as a tiny gold lighter in Hiro's pocket. When called upon, Gold Lightan transforms into a giant robot towering at 30 meters and weighing 200 tons. All robots in the show are sentient and do not require pilots. Usually the robot ends a battle with a trademark golden hand stab move which drives a hand strike cutting the enemy robots body, pulling out and smashing the heartbox energy device.

[edit] Merchandise
In 2005 Hong Kong Bandai reissued the semi-original robots as part of the Soul of Chogokin label. The individual robots were released with a hard plastic display case, robot footstand, red carpet storage box, interchangeable gold hands pieces as well as the enemies heartbox energy device. This version also feature the robots with high quality 18K gold plating.
Individually the robots can be purchased one by one or via a set. There are 2 known sets in the reissues, one is the 1st generation grey box available in Hong Kong and Japan featuring 6 of the robots. The other is an exclusive redcarpet wooden box set known to be available only in Japan featuring all 11 robots.
In 2005 replicas were re-released by Hung Hing toys in Hong Kong and Macau featuring the robots built in cheaper diecast materials. Depending on the robot, metal texture and minor designs do vary. Though the replicas were given far more freedom to market, such as releasing multiple versions of the robots. One special version is the large toy Gold Lightan measuring at 11.5 inches in height when standing in robot form. Only 2000 of the large version were manufactured. At the base of the foot, is a label counting the manufactured number out of 2000. Other versions include team robots in different color or grey low weight plastic/silver exclusive to Hong Kong and Macau.
Since Gold Lightan is the lead robot in the series. There has been more variations and replicas of him than any other models. Though there are other design variations, such as older toy models of I.C. Lightan uses AA batteries to light up the eye LED, while newer reissues of the toy uses flat button/coin batteries.
None of the re-releases/reissues are 100% identical to the original 1980s GB series chogokin toy launch from 1979 to 1983 by Popy Pleasure. The original collectibles are valued much higher. They were constructed with different grades of diecast metals as well as high quality ABS.
In 2006 Bandai released a new version of the Gold Lightan in their Soul of Chogokin line-up - GX 32 The Gold Lightan.[1] Not only was it considered to be one of the most detailed and sophisticated Gold Lightan as of yet, like it's predecessor it is another high quality toy made with 18K gold plating as well. Aside from being able to transform to the lighter just like it's predecessor, it's joints was well structured. The quality of the die-cast toy was so well made, it looked like the real thing. The package comes with a stand, some changeable hands (in which you can feature some of his trademark moves or poses like in the series), and a piece of the mechanic heart that is usually pulled out by the Gold Lightan himself in the series by his signature move. The die-cast toy was a success; and made Gold Lightan Fans dream came true. It was very well received both in Japan and in Hong Kong. In which spawn Bandai Hong Kong to make a singular stand showcase just for the Gold Lightan itself, which was only available in Hong Kong.
