Golden Throne (mountain)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Golden Throne is a dome covered in a gold colored Navajo Sandstone which is particularly special because normally the sandstone is creamy white. A two mile long trail takes you below the mountain.
The summit is just over 6400 feet in elevation and sit in the Waterpocket Fold, a 200 mile long landform in Central Utah. It is shaped like an ordinary mountain. The only difference is that it is completely made of stone.
The summit is very difficult to reach and requires a climbing permit from the Capital Reef National Park which it resides in. This climb may take several hours to do from the shortest route.
