Gold FM is the only retro station in the paradise island of Sri Lanka. The station was launched way back in September 1998. Catering to a mature audience, Gold FM plays music from yesteryear. The playlist includes classics from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Gold FM beams live from the 35th Floor of the World Trade Center which is the highest position in the island. The station broadcasts on 89.8FM in the City of Colombo. Gold FM is a part of the ABC Radio Networks which also operates its sister station SUN FM. According to media surveys, Gold FM was rated the most listened to English Radio station in the island.
Government of Sri Lanka on 26th October 2007 suspended the broadcasting licenses of ABC Radio Network which operated Gold FM for allegedly airing a false local news report.
