"Going Under" is the second single from Fallen, the debut album by American rock band Evanescence. Originally planned to be the first single, the success of "Bring Me to Life" eclipsed the initial decision.
While the only publicly released studio version of "Going Under" appears on Fallen, a demo version was made with minor — yet noticeable — differences which set it apart, including the way Lee's voice is mixed and the sound of the instruments.
[edit] Story behind the song

The lyrics are about coming out of a bad relationship, and when you're at the end of your rope, when you're at the point where you realize something has to change, that you can't go on living in the situation that you're in. It's cool. It's a very strong song. |

[edit] Music video

The video for "Going Under" was directed by Philip Stolzl and filmed in Berlin in May 2003. Lee designed both of the costumes she wears in the video and stitched the white dress used in the underwater scenes, all while recovering from an illness in a hotel in Los Angeles, California, which was the original filming location for the video.[1] The other costume Lee designed, a red corset, was custom made by a designer and cost US$2,500.[2]
The video itself features the band playing a concert attended by people who transform back and forth into zombies and other demonic forms during the course of the video. Interspersed with and stemming from the concert are segments featuring Lee singing underwater amidst a field of jellyfish, representing the lyrics "drowning in you".
[edit] In other media
The music of "Going Under" can be heard in the credits of the video game Enter the Matrix and also features in the movie and trailer of the 2006 film Tristan & Isolde. The song was also used in promotional advertisements for the television series Angel and The Grid.
