Goh Lee Kwang is sound artist & improviser from Malaysia. He has over 20 releases on CD & cdR, mainly on his own label Herbal (International). He play live improvisation & setup sonic visual installation both in Asia & Europe.

Born Penang, Malaysia

Goh Lee Kwang (family name Goh) was influences by electro-acoustic improvised music, 20th avant-grade composed music, electronic experimental music as well as visual art, movie & literature. Early in his career he was involved in indie rock music and electronic experimental music; Writing musical articles and essays for various fanzines and newspapers; as well as taking part in art exhibitions.

He making his own cdr album since 2001, most of his early works became the backing music of dance and theater pieces in Malaysia. In 2002 he was selected by international pioneer sound artist Max Neuhaus a grant/ fellowship at the [Akademie Schloss Solitude] of Stuttgart to stay and continue his artistic career in Stuttgart, Germany for 15 months in 2004 to 2005.

During he stay in Germany, he was working on the S.O.S. (sound of Solitude) field recording project & produced the CD "Internal Pleasures - solo improvisation with stereo DJ mixer". And supporting the CD, Goh setup the tour "Europe Pleasures" covering 10 cities in Ireland, Germany, France and The Netherlands, performed in various well-known experimental music/ sound festivals such as “Jazz en Nord” Lille, France, “Ver Uit De Maat” Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

After Germany, The Netherlands Art Collective "stDSPS" invited him to stay and develop his work in Rotterdam as guest artist for another 3 months before he returned to Malaysia. In December 2005, Goh organized his first solo exhibition, “Sound, Video, Visual, Media and Installation”, which is a 4 sites exhibition cross over the National Art Gallery, private gallery and artist run space in Kuala Lumpur.

In Jan 2006 Goh was invited to the 1st Sound workshop, by KHOJ in New Delhi, India and He was in the Artist-in-residency of Krems, Austria from Jan till end of March 2006.

In 2007 Goh were in the Artist-in-residency of STEIM, Amsterdam, The Netherlands & WORM, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. And he also setup the second Europe tour "Europe Vibrations" covering Austria, Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands & France, performed in various festivals such as "New West Electronic Arts & Music Festival", Berlin & "Festival de Musiques Innovatrices", Saint-Etienne...

Beside his sound (music) career, Goh also work on video, sound and visual installation, among his work were shown at "Look At The Sound" Reka Art Space 2003, "A.S.S.2004" Akademie Schloss Solitude 2004, "Klangraum Festival" Kunstraum Stuttgart 2004, "Film Winter, Media Im Raum" WKV Stuttgart 2005, "D.I.Y." stDSPS, Rotterdam 2005.

Goh is also one of the founding member of "n desir studio" and one of the founders of Experimental Artists Co-op Malaysia (EMACM). "n desir studio" an alternative multifunctional artist run space in Kuala Lumpur, organized art exhibition, underground music concert, experimental music workshop, international film screening, and as well as using the space as rehearsal space for dance and theater performed. EMACM is a collaborative project dedicated to the facilitation, publication and exposure of creative and experimental works from the region.
