• It illustrates an educational article about the book, the 1964 Ballantine Books paperback edition of The Gods of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and an article about the illustrator of the book cover, Robbert Abbett.
• It contributes to a critical commentary about the book and the illustrator.
