Goat Island, Auckland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Auckland's Goat Island is a tiny island (approximately one hectare) located close to the North Island coast northeast of Warkworth, and directly west of Hauturu/Little Barrier Island. [1]

It forms part of the Goat Island Marine Reserve, a 524ha reserve spanning from Cape Rodney to Okakari point, which was gazetted in 1975[2]. With around 314,525 visitors per year, it is a popular spot for snorkelers and scuba-divers, due to the large number of fish now living there.

Takangaroa is another island in the same area which used to be known as Goat Island. Coordinates: 36°16′02″S 174°47′49″E / -36.2673, 174.7968
