Auckland's Goat Island is a tiny island (approximately one hectare) located close to the North Island coast northeast of Warkworth, and directly west of Hauturu/Little Barrier Island. [1]
It forms part of the Goat Island Marine Reserve, a 524ha reserve spanning from Cape Rodney to Okakari point, which was gazetted in 1975[2]. With around 314,525 visitors per year, it is a popular spot for snorkelers and scuba-divers, due to the large number of fish now living there.
Takangaroa is another island in the same area which used to be known as Goat Island. Coordinates:
