GNU VCDImager is a suite of command line programs and tools designed for authoring and creating VCDs (video-CD) and SVCDs (super video-CDs).
The VCDImager project is released as open source and was primarily written by Herbert Valerio Riedel.
It represents the only open source set of tools for authoring VCDs and it is the back end to several popular (S)VCD authoring tools including "VCDEasy".
The main development of the program was with the version 0.7.x branch that included the ability to author menus and other playback control (PBC) structures. Development of this program occurred mainly between 2000 and 2002. As the "White Book" specifications of video-CDs needs to be purchased from Philips and are only available under a non-disclosure agreement, development of this project was by and large through reverse engineering of known good VCD samples.
VCDImager remains available for download from www.vcdimager.org.
