Gnome(bot) operation criteria for WP:CU clean up tasking
If you are going here because Gnome (bot) did something bad, Click here to go to Gnome bot's talk page to stop it. If you feel that the problem is an exception rather than the rule, bring it up on this page's talk page or on my talk page.
Gnome bot will provide me with its reasoning and what it saw EVERY TIME IT MAKES AN EDIT. If you want to see these for any reason let me know The records are great for improving the bot:-)
Gnome bot does the first thing it comes to, (starting at the top and working its way down) and moves on to the next article. (when 2 or more of the criteria fit the article, Gnome bot does only the first)
Any time "me" or "I" is mentioned, I am refering to me, the bot operator: Bot operator is Eagle (talk) (desk)
IF YOU ARE NOT User:Alba, the bot purposer, DO NOT EDIT THIS PAGE but rather post your comments and suggestions on the page's talk page.

[edit] Disambig
If the article has {{Disambig}} and {{cleanup}} or {{cleanup-date}}, then add {{disambig-cleanup}}
- Reasoning: if {{Disambig}} is there, its a disambig page and the better place for the article is the more specialized {{disambig-cleanup}}, rather than the general cleanup tag.
- Safeguards: None currently needed. If someone can think of something that would cause a false hit, bring it up with me.
[edit] "List" found in title
If the title contians "list", and {{cleanup}} or {{cleanup-date}} are present, then add {{cleanup-list}}
- Reasoning: Only madmen title a page list if it is not such. Therefore it should be cleaned as such.
- Safeguards: Currently, against misidentifying articles with list as part of a word, e.g., enlist
[edit] "List" found in section headers
If there are only one or two sections, and one section's header contains "list", and {{cleanup}} or {{cleanup-date}} are present, then add {{cleanup-list}}.
- Reasoning: If there is only one heading and it has list in it, than it is very probable that the article is an incomplete list.
- Safeguards: Several simple regular expression statements against false hits.
- Settings:
- Maximum # of sections = 2
[edit] Article is a stub
If the article has less than <X> words than replace cleanup with add {{stub}}.
- Reasoning: Objections have caused us to label stubs and retain the cleanup moniker. While we still feel that stubs are, by their nature, targets for cleanup and expansion, we bow to consensus and retain the {{cleanup}} tag. However, cleanup often contains stubs, and this is a simple means of identifying them.
- Safeguards: don't add {{stub}} if it's already present.
- Settings:
- X = 225 words
- Therefore, all articles marked for cleanup shorter than 225 words will be marked as stubs.
- X = 225 words
[edit] Article should be Wikified
NOTE:<MINWIKI> = percent of an articles words that are wikified.
If less than <MINWIKI> of its content is a wikilink then replace cleanup with add {{wikify}}.
- Reasoning: Identifying articles with a very low wikilink population is a good means of identifying text dumps and barely-wikified articles. Typically, good articles on Wikipedia have about 4% of their content wikified. A page already marked for cleanup, and with a low number of links, probably needs further wikification as part of the cleanup process.
- Per objections of the community, wikify no longer supersedes cleanup.
- Safegaurds: Stub sized articles will not end up with a wikify tag, as Gnome prioritizes adding {{stub}} over adding {{wikify}}.
- Settings:
- MINWIKI = 1%
[edit] No sections in the article
If an article contains zero sections and the article has > <X> words then replace cleanup with add {{Sections}}.
- Reasoning: Wikipedia discourages excessively long pages without sections.
- Safeguards: None
- Settings:
- X = 750 words
[edit] Categories are needed
If article contians 0 categories and has greater than X words, then replace cleanup with add {{Uncategorized}}.
- Reasoning: This is too long to be a stub, so it doesn't fall under Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting. However, an article this specific probably needs a category.
- Safeguards: None
- Settings:
- X = 600
- Example: Causes of the Great Depression
