[edit] Auroranorth and WP:AWB

Hi, I'm Auroranorth's coach.

My coaching has consisted of him coming to me for assignments, which he has completed diligently and well.

It looks like he needs closer supervision. I'll be happy to provide this.

He's a kid, and a bit of a hothead, but I believe he's got great potential -- it's just that he doesn't quite get it (how things work around here) yet. He's got a great deal of energy, and a voracious appetite for learning everything about Wikipedia. I can see he cares about the project -- he's just a little rough around the edges. So was I when I started. I believe with continued (and increased) guidance he will turn out to be one hell of a good editor. He just needs some aculturalization.  :-)

I made an agreement with him concerning AWB, he's stuck to his part of the bargain, and he hasn't abused that tool. He only uses it to complete the assignments I provide him, and he's done very well with it so far.

I've already pledged to clean up any problems he might cause with it, and he's kept to his word that he wouldn't use it for anything except by my explicit instructions.

I would appreciate it if you would restore his access to it.

I'll be focusing his energies on Wikipedia's Lists of basic topics initially, which are in dire need of attention, and once we've cleaned those up some, will be expanding his activities upon our set of Lists of topics. After he's got Wikipedia's superstructure down pat, I'll ease him back into editing regular articles.

I believe I can keep him occupied and interested enough to keep him out of further trouble.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist 11:05, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

P.S.: I've updated his coaching page. --TT 11:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Food for thought

Thanks for that. I knew Ned Kelly's last words were 'such is life' (he copied it off Ben Cousins, I am sure) but I didn't know it was on this day. Thanks again, Auroranorth 08:33, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I didn't know that I could do that. Do you think the assessments so far have been reasonable? If you don't think so (now or any time in the future) give me a buzz. I'd like to hear you. Auroranorth 11:58, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Script

Regarding Outriggr's script, could you please replace MyTemplateCode (or something like that) with {{WPMILHIST|class=}}. The script is useless without that. Thanks, Auroranorth 12:04, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clarification

Secondly the Arbcom ruling that TDC has been referring to had a parole period of 1 year from the Feb 11, 2006, to me that means that the 1R parole finished on 11th February 2007. yet TDC was still saying that Xenophrenic is subject to that arbcom ruling in August 2007diff. Even in September after the CU returned a conclusive unrelated the arbcom ruling was being quoted as the reason for extending the block period diff.

Had Xenophrenic been confirmed as a sockpuupet of Reddi, he would have been subject to sanctioning under Reddi's Arcom decision as many of the violations would have taken place before February 11th 2007. I don’t see how it matters that just because a sockpuupet manages to evade detection until his puppeteer’s sanctions end, those sanctions cannot be enforced on behavior that was not linked between the two until later. Torturous Devastating Cudgel 18:25, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Have you ever considered the possibility that you might be wrong? It's something to think about. Dlabtot 23:43, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Thats the whole point Xenophrenic wasnt confirmed as being a sock puppet, the SSP in August returned an Unrelated result. In the arbcom listing this fact was not being presented and its specifically relevant to the considerations as whether the case is taken up/or not by ARBCOM. Gnangarra 09:43, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

no wonder people are joking about "boongs" over there. It's probably like "nigger" or something over here (although many of the lower-income areas also have people of Spanish-speaking ancestry, including Mexicans). [edit] Beans

  • I saw after I had posted it from the page history that it had been there before and that it had been removed. I understand the point about WP:Beans but I am not sure that we should fail to acknowledge that this is a less successful example of managing content / vandals. I suspect a few of us now have the page on our watch list so unsuitable content won't stay up on that page for long. The page history seems to reveal that it was less than successful reversion by Cluebot that disguised the fact that vandalism had occurred - ie the bot reverted some entries but not all. I would prefer that the press reference stayed but don't feel very strongly about it and I understand the Beans perspective. Hi Gnangarra - I nominated a category you created in 2006 for deletion. The article on Eclipse Foundation should include its members, but it is IMO overcategorization to include a category for every organization that is a member of every other organization. Please feel free to share your thoughts at the discussion, though; the discussion for this category is here. [edit] PNG

Hi Gnangarra. I appreciate your input into the Talk:John_Howard#PNG discussions. My own view is that it is a reasonably well known fact about Howard's family history, that many readers know about already. As you remember, the original treatment of the plantation issue was given a lot more space in the article. The present version is much briefer, in fact, I think it is about as brief as it could get, which makes it difficult to find an area of further compromise. Is there any area that could be further compromised which would persuade you to allow a brief and minimalist mention of the PNG connection? A change in the references used, maybe? There were 10 references presented for it. I acknowledge that you and Skyring currently oppose mention. Some other editors oppose a long and detailed account, but would be in favour of a minimalist entry. Let me know if there is any area of it that could be improved to satisfy your concerns. Thanks, Lester 00:24, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply, regarding the connection between Howard and the plantations. I answered it back on the article Talk:John_Howard#PNG page. Offer still open, if you can think of any area for compromise. Regards, Lester 21:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Gangarra. After getting some advice, I'm forming the opinion that the only way to reach a consensus with the PNG issue is to take it for a second time to mediation. It's difficult to come to an amicable agreement on the talkpage that will suit all parties, so maybe formal mediation can result in a position that we can abide by. Any thoughts? [edit] HofWA

As Stannage alludes to, thats what comes of official sponsorship—current day politicians and notables dominate. But paradoxically he also points out that the non-biography section was the first time a serious effort was made to document pre-1870 material. Battye's Cyclopaedia (1913) is more balanced as I recall, if not with the same level of biographical detail. —Moondyne 00:43, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Block of User:Boehner

I saw your post at WP:ANI about your 24 hour block of User:Boehner and was wondering if a username block wouldn't be more appropriate. If you don't know where I'm coming from, sound the user's name out in your head and you'll certainly see it then. Let me know if you would be willing to consider lengthening the block. Thanks! Re: Heh, I brought it up with you instead of on ANI since I'm an admin too and you're the blocking admin. Since you chose a 24 hour editing block, you could reblock indef (to cover the username) with autoblock and prevent account creation on (since they last for 24 hours) to cover your editing block and the indef block for the username violation. If you'd prefer not to do anything, though, I'll just indef block the username when your 24 hour block expires. Let me know what you'd prefer to do. :-) Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 05:12, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sean Simmans's Page

My father, Sean Simmans, had a page here on Wikipedia and today, when I wanted to take a look at it, I found out that it was deleted. Deleted by you. I would like to know why. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.197.230.97 (talk) 08:23, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in but you should see the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sean Simmans, the text is at User:Hiding/Sean Simmans Paul foord (talk) 08:29, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Thx Paul Gnangarra 08:32, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay, so it's not totally deleted, but it is hidden. Which makes no sense. FREEDOM OF FREAKING SPEECH! (Or in this case the PRESS [kind of].) People should be allowed to view knowledge without through "hidden" things. It doesn't make any sense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.197.230.97 (talk) 08:40, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia isnt the "Press" its an encyclopedia as such have a set of criteria by which its decided if a subject is considered notable, when another editor see an article they dont think meets the criteria then they start a discussion. In the case of Sean Simmans it was determined that while he doesnt meet the criteria, an article on the comic strip does. Hiding (talk · contribs) requested that the Sean article be placed in user space so that he could combine the information in to the comic strip article.Gnangarra 08:52, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
