Regarding my conditions, could edits to the meditation cabal be outside of my P-Plates? Thanks, Auroranorth 15:15, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Absolutely not. Hesperian 04:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Banksia/Plants ratings

Hi Yep, I'd appreciated the Plant rating within the Banksia rating - the trouble is that bots aren't clever enough to pick it up, which left a handful of obvious 'oddities' on eg Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Plant articles by quality statistics and Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Plant articles by quality/46. Notwithstanding the existence of the rating within Banksia, it just seemed easier to tidy them up and rate them within Plants as well.FlagSteward 13:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Fairy-wrens

G'day - I'm now working up Superb Fairy-wren for a tilt at FAC sometime. I'm thinking of doing Splendid Fairy-wren too but the subspecies are a bit of a headache there and this would impact on the range map. I'd be extremely grateful for a range map for the former one. I'll find a link or scan the distrib map I have. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:27, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder

Hola Mentors!

Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!

Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:26, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter

Oh sorry, I didn't see the discussion above on this page. May I ask why I have been denied, and when it would be acceptable during the P-Block? I know I can after 3 months. Auroranorth 11:27, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Peter Costello

Hi Gnangarra. I have unprotected Peter Costello as it is the new WP:ACOTF. Hopefully we can monitor and revert vandalism for the next fortnight, or at most semiprotect it. If you disagree, please let me know. Thanks. --Scott Davis Talk 14:05, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

John Howard wording

I appreciate your concerns, but the fact is that the senior Howards didn't "acquire" the plantations, according to the sources given. The wording you keep reinstating is untrue and therefore should not be in the article. --Pete 02:01, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Edit wars / Tag teams

Hi Gnangarra, I've noticed recent edit wars taking place in the John Howard article. I point it out, because it's an example of what we were discussing on the Australian Wiki noticeboard. Edit war starts, despite ongoing discussion. Editor #1 goes through 3 reverts, then Editor #2 immediately begins reverting the same subject matter. It's what I call a tag-team. Regardless of what political opinions we have, or our opinion on that particular piece of information, I think reverting tag-teams are not good. Cheers, Lester2 04:31, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

My response to Lester as left on his talk page, I'm not interested in tag teams or edit wars! All I did was restore to the current version as per the status of the discussion, the version I removed is similar to version I think is appropriate for the article but until consensus is established the current one should stay in place, because it is factual there isnt any liability concerns, the question is whether its relevant to JH. My user pages

A few months ago you semi-protected most of my user related pages due to vandalism. The protection is set to expire in a few days. Can you semi-protect them again to 1st January, 2008 please? The pages are here, here, here, here and here. Can you not semi-protect the other pages, thanks. Davnel03 16:25, 5 September 2007 (UTC) Y Done Gnangarra 01:34, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Why did you revert that article? I had turned it into a redirect that goes to an article of the proper name 'Chick Sexing'. I have fixed it, though please contact me if you do not believe that your undo was in error.Darkcraft 14:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Having some fun

I think it is really cool, and should be included in the page. Perhaps in a few years, when we're taking it to FA and have heaps of images to choose from, we might have to weigh carefully the hairy question of what it offers the article other than its intrinsic coolness. But that is an infinity of possibilities away, and right now it can only improve the article. Hesperian 12:31, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

User:Brendan.lloyd

(in reply to message on my talk) But in any case his editing is disruptive, if you check the talk page, he has not been discussing the edits that he has "undone" of others. I blocked both sides in this dispute as a result of page protection failing. I did not block for 3RR, I blocked for disruptive editing. But if that is what you think, that is fine, but I hope you keep an eye on this situation. Both parties here need to discuss rather then attempt to game 3RR. —— Eagle101Need help? 05:31, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

I find your unblock here to be impulsive, and not very appropriate. There was nothing so urgent here that it required an immediate reversal of another administrator without any discussion, with the administrator or anyone else, or outside consensus. You unblocked literally minutes after the block. Furthermore, you unblocked only on party in the dispute, for reasoning that would have applied to both, and this is even more suspicious considering that you are a party to another article dispute, and were involved in an edit war (where Prester John and Brendan.lloyd were waring again) in which you were reverting Prester John's version to Brendan.lloyd's version [3]. I think it's a bad idea for you to have gotten involved here as an administrator considering how recent that was, especially since it smells like you are enabling Brendan's edit warring. At the very least, I'd appreciate if you could undo your unblock and raise your concerns at ANI, instead. Dmcdevit·t 05:38, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Have another look at that edit, I said "while agree with PJ on the edit there was no-consensus for the edit so I reverted". As for not unblocking PJ I was look at what was going on and if I see the same thing I'll unblock there as well. That said If you wish to again reinstate the block go for it. Gnangarra 05:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, that doesn't respond to the substance of my comment at all, and I don't think making yet another undiscussed unblock is helping. These two were edit warring, and unblocking is simply letting them know that it is acceptable to you. You shouldn't be unblocking if you were reverting either of them, regardless of your reason. In fact, now that I look closer, these two have been reverting each other, often just below 3RR at several articles for weeks now. What makes you think that an immediate undiscussed unblock when now at least three administrators disagree with you is going to help this edit war at all? I think it will just prolong it. Dmcdevit·t 05:50, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
What's more, that you unblocked so quickly that you apparently did not research the situation closely enough to know who else was blocked is worrisome. You should give more thought to reversing other admins, and usually seek other opinion. Have you ever noticed that that screen you get every time you unblock a user says "Remember, there was probably a good reason for the person to be blocked. Please discuss the block with the blocking administrator before unblocking."? Dmcdevit·t 05:54, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
So wait... you are telling me that the behaviour these two editors have been doing on that article and others is acceptable? I ask this as you have undone my other block as well, without asking me about it or noting it anywhere. —— Eagle101Need help? 06:01, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Both have been reblocked for 24 hours. Gnangarra 06:18, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

reinstated

All editors to the article were warned Talk:David_Hicks#Protected that low threshhold then 3RR would be applied after the article was unprotected. I have reinstated the blocks based on this, as it appears to be rationale behind the blocking. Gnangarra 06:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for undoing yourself, I hope in the future you look into situations a bit more, and feel free to ask or e-mail the blocking admin before undoing the block. I can't speak for other admins, but I hang around a bit after my last block, just to make sure that everything is ok, and to be around if there are questions. I posted the block to ANI as well for review, knowing others may be interested. Discussion applies doubly so for undoing admin actions. —— Eagle101Need help? 06:31, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
It's also helpful to see where an editor has been warned on their userpage, or a link to actual warning if it isnt there especially when it was issued 16 days before hand. IMHO both editors should have recieved a final warning first just to remind them of the earlier warning, I wouldn't have made any further edits after they were warned. Gnangarra 06:42, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
These two knew that editwarring is not a good thing. That warning was enough, disruptive editing is not useful, and unblocks without discussing with the blocking admin is also not very useful, especially since you unblocked so fast (from the time of the unblock request to the unblock), I'm not so sure you fully read in the situation. After all you had not noticed that I blocked both parties to the dispute (had you read my block messages you would have noticed that I had blocked the other party for the same reason). Had you asked me I would have been glad to tell you all you needed to know. We all know revertwarring is to be discouraged, and those two have had their fair warning on that particluar article, and if you check their contribs, they have been at it on several other articles as well. —— Eagle101Need help? 08:08, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Brendan.lloyd (talk · contribs)

I saw you unblocked this user.[4] I was about to decline the request, but you beat me to the punch, so to speak. :-P You should be aware that neither of the two edits to the main article correlate with his talk page edits there. It is an article that has had problems with edit warring and both parties were blocked to prevent further edit warring. The user has a history of aggressive editing and conflict with Prester John (talk · contribs). This deleted edit demonstrates an example of the acrimony between the two users.[5] I thought you should be aware of the situation. Thanks for your time! Vassyana 05:35, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Requesting closure

Hi! This AfD has been open for 8 days, and I think it's a pretty clear case. Could you please close it for us? Thanks. --MrStalker talk 10:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

looking into the article this provides one independent source to one listed character. I have an issue with the claim made in this source that Krystal Forscutt is the first Australian to be a character in an EA game because EA games have been making ARL and AFL games since 1994(thats my WP:OR) so under the circumstances I'll refrain from closing. Gnangarra 12:22, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
So what? I don't understand... --MrStalker talk 12:27, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
The basis for nomination is it wasnt supported by independent sources, it took me all of five minutes to find one source that supports the information beyond EA, that was found on wiki in a linked article I didnt do a search. Ok I have issues with claims(though in its defense it does say "believed to be") in the sources article but the source is generally considered reliable, I have used them before as a source. The source shows notability beyond the games market invalidates lack of WP:NOTABILITY, and its also addresses WP:OR. Gnangarra 12:39, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, the article isn't about that one character, but a whole bunch of them. Just because one fact can be referenced it doesn't mean the rest of them can. The ones that can be referenced can easily be merged to the relavent article. In fact, I think it already is. --MrStalker talk 13:02, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok a couple of points, dont ask for AfD's to be closed they'll happen within a couple of days. When you do expect that admin to look further into the AfD then just the discussion. In this case I did, it may not be one it just happened to be the first only one I checked. Since your so insistent, I'll check the rest of the characters out looking for sources independent of EA. Gnangarra 13:16, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Just looking at the article again and noticed, the two images from KP in Taxamony section are the same and the burnt and the seedlings are the same spot at different heights. Gnangarra 01:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I cropped the inflorescence and infructescence out of the same KP picture. That the burnt and seedlings pictures are the same location is interesting - it supports the narrative nicely; I'll work something into the caption. Hesperian 02:21, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Gnangarra, I noticed you commenting on Wikipedia:Viewing deleted articles. Do you know where the impetus for the reopening of that poll is coming from? I've asked Captain Zyrain, but as you have commented on the talk page of that poll, figured you might have some sort of an idea. Also, the Captain has done a copy and paste move of the original poll... - Ta bu shi da yu 08:10, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Conversation opener

the article Conversation opener has been deleted as recreation of deleted material(WP:CSD#G4), the article is the same as what was deleted. If you wish to recreate the article then you will need to use WP:DRV as explained by DGG Gnangarra 05:41, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I disagree with that interpretation/application of CSD#4. It states:
4. Recreation of deleted material. A copy, by any title, of a page deleted via a deletion discussion, provided the copy is substantially identical to the deleted version and that any changes to it do not address the reasons for which it was deleted. This does not apply to content that has been moved to user space, undeleted via deletion review, or deleted via "proposed deletion", or to speedy deletions (although in that case, the previous speedy criterion, or other speedy criteria, may apply).
Note the language, "...and that any changes to it do not address the reasons for which it was deleted..." The changes that were made in the last hours/days of the AfD as well as afterward, did address the reasons (HOWTO & SPAM) cited in the deletion discussion, to the point where the article that was deleted the second time around was substantially different from the one that existed when the users were voting to delete. I have taken the liberty of recreating the article. If you disagree, you are welcome to re-delete, and this can then go to DRV as you suggest. Thank you. Captain Zyrain 08:11, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
Again its been deleted, I now warn you that recreation could result in a block for being disruptive. The process as explained by DGG, is that the article was restore to your user space to facilitate you addressing the issues raised in the afd which lead it to be deleted. When you are happy that you have addressed those issues then lodge at WP:DRV for recreation. Gnangarra 08:21, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
OK, it has been added to Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 September 17. Captain Zyrain 08:31, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Conversation opener. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article or speedy-deleted it, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Captain Zyrain 09:09, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
