[edit] Railpage Australia (4th AfD)

The Railpage article has been nominated for deletion - with similar reasons "Blatant advertising" - for a 4th time, by a single user account user:FailpageMustGo.(Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Railpage_Australia_(4)). The nominators username is in the same vein as the AfD(3)'s nominator, and I would not be suprised if they are one and the same. Is it possible for this to be nipped in the bud as a "mistrial"? And is there any way to prevent this article from being AfD'd every 2 or 3 days? Johnmc 03:25, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

And it seems it was very quickly nipped in the bud as a Bad Faith nomination. I am still wondering if we'll have to go through this every 2 or 3 days, though. Johnmc 03:30, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unusual Adoption Request

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

[edit] Banksia stuff

erm...got blooms, regrowth...maybe an old cone somewhere may be interesting, and young spike bud. Otherwise I think we're right on that one. We can work that one up soon. PS: I've just nominated Banksia ericifolia which you've probably seen :) cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 02:31, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the rearrangement. I'm a bit pressed for time today - am quite happy with how it looks now now that the 4 boxes are in a square rather than on top of each other. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:12, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

i have addressed whatever you said. justify your comments please. thankyou, Sushant gupta 10:37, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

i have done whatever you said. i am not getting the correct reason why do you want to broke down the paragraph into two. the first para explains the broad concept of origin of life and i don't think that breaking the para would be of any use. thanks, Sushant gupta 10:38, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

gasp, such awesome use! btw the nat trust officando behind the fence when i was photographing e perth cemetery some months ago (yes...) suggested the main roads carpark was the jewish or chinese graveyard i forget. the point is any form of roadwork in the vicinity is likely to turn bones. [edit] Thank you

Thank you
Thank you for your support of my recent unsuccsessful rfa, which concluded today with a final tally of 22/15/3. The comments and suggestions from this rfa, combined with the comments left during my first rfa, have given me a good idea of where I need improvement.
TomStar81 (Talk) 05:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
  • For the record: at the time I closed my 1st rfa I was unaware that Oldwindybear was using sockpuppets — or more aproprietly, was allegedly using sock puppets, since at the time I had seen nothing official (I have now, of course, and I reliase that I am involved since it was I who, in good faith, renominated OWB for adminship after Stillstudying batched the nom, and thus set into motion the events that resulted in the depature of both users). I stand by my descion to withdraw to keep him here because I believe in what I wrote: that we need to keep our contributers here. That OWB was using sock puppets doesn't change the fact that I would like to have seen him stay, however I would demand that something be done regarding his sockpuppet usage since that is quite obviously against policy, against the guidelines, and against the rules. I do not know if this is your reason for pulling support in my rfa at the last moment, although if I was in your shoes I can say that I would likely have made the same move to err on the side of caution. In any event, I apreciate you openess on the matter, and look forward to meeting you again whether it be on rfa or in one of the various articles here on Wikipedia. Yours sincerly and resptfully, TomStar81 (Talk) 05:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question

I have a Q regarding Aurors block...in the conditions you stated that he cannot edit PSA-related articles for 3 months. Does this include things such as Alumni articles? (eg. David Fenbury to Aquinas College, Perth), because I wish to work with him to make articles on GGS-Alumni, like i have been doing with AC. Cheers. Twenty Years 14:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Are you saying that they dont meet notability standards? (you said yes to them...so i thought they would) OR are you suggesting that the articles do not assert the notability of the subject (if that is the case, i strongly disagree with your judgement, all of the articles i have created this month are strong stubs, which cover the subject in full. I am not only creating them because they are Aquinas, but because they meet notability requirements, and as such belong here. I keep tabs on the articles via my watchlist to enure that changes to comply with relevant policies
I can see your issue with the category, and for the most part their education only takes up about a twelfth of their life-span. But there are cases where a persons school actually has a much longer relationship with the person beyond their attendance, eg. Justin Langer, Kevin Ryan, Ben Wyatt, Michael Chaney and ors. and as such i feel that the category is appropriate.

Could we please unprotect or at least semi protect this article. Note that previous vandalism was almost entirely from anon IPs. Happened when he was getting a lot of media coverage. but he is hardly in the media at the moment. Michellecrisp 07:23, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recall

Thanks for the link! I'll keep an eye on the discussion. It's actually something I've been giving a lot of thought to. I want to make myself very available for recall if good-faith editors have concerns about my actions. Even though I am soooo certain that there's never going to be a problem.  :) It's not the controversial stuff that I even want the tools for -- I'm not intending to get heavily involved in blocks and vandal-fighting. Mainly I want the tools so that I can do things like view deleted edits, and make the occasional edit to a protected page. And I'm going to be very cautious about deleting anything, since I've seen how many concerns have been raised. I'll probably help out at CAT:SPEEDY, but it's not like I'm going to go prowling around the 'pedia seeking places to do controversial deletions! Also, to be honest, if it were up to me, I'd actually commit to even higher standards onto my adminship than just "don't abuse the tools." But I couldn't figure out how to phrase my idea in very simple language. For example, one of my convoluted draft replies to the question was, "I'm actually going to set the bar surprisingly low here, because I feel so strongly about this. In my opinion, adminship is a big deal. Admins are seen as authority figures, and should present themselves as examples of how Good Wikipedians should act, even if it doesn't involve the direct use of administrator tools. This means that I feel that administrators should act in accordance with things like WP:CIVIL, WP:AGF, WP:NPA, and WP:BITE. So here are my standards for recall: If ## editors in good standing agree that I have behaved improperly, either by misuse of admin tools or by violation of one of those behavioral guidelines, then I will consider myself on 30-days probation. If another incident occurs within those 30 days, that ## editors agree is another violation (and it doesn't have to be the same editors), then I will either resign, or submit myself for community reconfirmation." I really liked that draft (then again, it was 3 a.m. at the time). But, I figure if I would have posted it, I probably would have gotten people opposing me for being "too bureaucratic"! LOL. So, I decided to fall back on "simple". But I'm honestly open to discussion on this, and would like to pick standards that make people comfortable. I'm actually willing to let you be the decision-maker on this. If you think that the best consensus is "six editors", and that's what would make you the most comfortable, I'm willing to change my answer... Let me know!  :) --Elonka 17:59, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion

Hi Gnan. Might I suggest you withdraw the second part of your statement here? I understand why you might think that, but I honestly don't think it's going to help OIC. --cj | talk 04:30, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Gnangarra, from my discussion with Orderinchaos off-wiki I am also very loathed to believe that there is deliberate wrongdoing on his past here. He has always struck me as honest and committed to fair play. But this post from you seems to be accusing Mackensen of acting in bad faith. I doubt he made the decision to disclose the results of his check on participants in that RfA lightly and that a very close connection would have had to exist between those two accounts to Orderinchaos. I think it really would be wise for you to take that back and consider an apology to Mackensen who has due to his checkuser duties been placed in a very awkward situation. WjBscribe 04:38, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I see you have already done so. Forget that bit. And re:people being checked, I have every reason to believe that the supporters were checked as carefully as the opposers in that RfA. I am sure there is no dishonest intent. WjBscribe 04:40, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
I have already withdrawn the comments and appologised to Mackensen on the page, I'll an appology to his talk page as well, then I wont have any further involvement in the discussion Gnangarra 04:41, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

No worries, Gn. The discussion so far seems to have been kept reasoned; I'll try and keep watch to make sure it's not sidetracked by other issues or whipped into a lynch squad. Enjoy the sunshine! :)--cj | talk 04:57, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Accessing a deleted page?

G'day - just wondering whether you can advise me whether its possible to access a copy of the recently deleted James Thomas Neill article for my archives and possible use elsewhere? I have no problem with the decision - it was obviously borderline and I respect the WP peer-review process. The article was somewhat naively created and initially edited by myself and then later I came to appreciate WP ways and was happy to leave the article to the deserved fate of peer editing. Nevertheless, access to the deleted text would be helpful. Sincerely, Jtneill - Talk 11:33, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Just done a little more reading, and wondered about possible Wikipedia:userfication? FYI, I've removed all relevant WP links to the article. Jtneill - Talk 11:57, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Gnangarra, why do you have reason to get a checkuser on whoever? If you give me the names, I'll tell you whether they're mine or not. Thank you for taking the time to participate at the discussion in my Request for Adminship. Unfortunately the nomination did not succeed, but please rest assured that I am still in full support of the Wikipedia project. [edit] My sockspuppets

It would be nice to have a check user identify all these socks, so we can roll them back immediately per WP:SOCK and WP:BAN. Stop wasting everyone's time with sock puppetry and hoax articles. --Merbabu 13:26, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I shall. But you must have noticed, I actually have quite a lot non/hoax articles around here, created with several socks. Besides the many bad ones, of course...

A good starting point is to list all the sock accounts you have used or created. From there apologies to the editors who showed good faith in you only to be let done by yet another sock. From there we can talk about what further actions/conditions are needed to be in place and from when restoring editing privileges could be considered. At the moment there isnt any offer for unblocking its only a thought on what could take place, any decision would need to support within the wider community Gnangarra 14:14, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Well, I can make that list, but I think you've allready got it. All the known "sockpuppets of Mrlob", are mine, since Mrlob was my first account on the English wikipedia, besides my IP-adress; the one on which I am currently editing. Note that I was also active on the Dutch, French, Frisian and Simple English wikipedia's. On all those, I have only one account, and no vandalism has been done there, at all. Except for the Dutch wikipedia, on which mine and also Kermanshahi's accounts have been banned indefinetely. There is a link on Kermanshahi's user-page, to a Dutch account called "Kermansjahi", with a "j". My own accounts there are called Sirlob, BozeJoop (Angry Jope), and OLOL. You might contact some Dutch admins on the Dutch wikipedia; most of them speak excellent English. You know all my accounts on this wikipedia; you might check out the accounts there, if you'd really like to solve this matter. At first, I tried to cover up Kermanshahi, but I now realised that is nonsense; he is more involved with sockpuppetry and vandalism then you might know. Truth is, I and Kermanshahi know each othert in real; we are students, and both live in the Netherlands. That might explain my edits on wikipedia; they are mostly to Dutch and Frisian related articles; (I'm partly Dutch, partly Frisian). Kermanshahi, on the other hand, is originally an Iranian. He has done some good things on wikipedia, and made 2900 edits, as he claims. But my Hagawaga-Oegawaga account also made 2000+ edits on here, and created three B-class articles, of which one, Dorus Rijkers, became a DYK-article. From on this IP-adress, I tried to unblock that account, on which I have much good edits. Because H.O was my fresh start, after a lot of socks. And when he was blocked, due the effords of User:Roland'91 and User:Blowland (another man I know in real), I was very angry, and tried to unblock myself. I failed, and my talk-page got blocked, and later deleted, which I still greatly feel angry about. My user-page, on which I did much effords to make it that nice, was deleted, and couldn't restore it, sadly (it was very nice, that page, and Phaedriel even gave me a star for it). Well, than there was the Murlock account, which told things on me which had me and both the vandals blocked; he was also someone I know. Many of his edits were made from this IP-adress, and I did them, because again, I had a fight with him in real life, and I knew his password, on which I took disadvantage (how mean of me to do so). But when you would take a closer look at a check-user and its results on him, you'll see that the accusations he mentioned on mem, were done from a different IP-adress, on which I never edited, as far as I know. On the same adress, the account was created. So, accept from Blowland, Roland'91 and Murlock, all the accounts known as socks of Mrlob, are indeed socks of Mrlob. As you now know, the whole story is more complex than you might have known. Kermanshahi, well, he just tried to save his own ass, but he also is a sockpuppeteer, probabaly. I don't know which accounts are his, but on the Dutch wiki, his account has allready been blocked indefenitely. Again, I think you might find it usefull to ask around on the Dutch wikipedia. The administators there also mostly have accounts on this wikipedia; you can contact them there if you'd like. I can't ask them myself, because this IP-adress has been blocked there, and so are all my accounts and Kermanshahi\Kermansjahi's overthere. Consider take a look at Kermanshahi's user-page, and click the link to dutch wiki; you'll then see he's blocked there for sockpupettery; (or "Sokpopperij", in Dutch!). Is that enough explanation for know? I hope this is usefull to you, for now. 84.87.138.105 16:26, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I just saw he removed the link; look into early versions; here

You know I was blocked because of your sockpuppets. I don't want any trouble so why don't you just leave me out of this. The Honorable Kermanshahi 10:21, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Please remove the protection - it's a ridiculous overreaction on your part. Or are you with the PM&C? Albatross2147 02:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
We have an obligation under WP:BLP and given that the article is subject to media commentary about it having bias, and COI edits protection is the appropriate move please use the article talk page for further discussion as there protection has consensus. Alternatively go to WP:RFPP and request the unprotection of the article. Gnangarra 02:59, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
You really have some bee in your bonnet. You have not been sighted in the John Howard page ever and suddenly you ride in and block edits (note speedy reversal of your high handed action). And you delete stuff you don't like from the talk pages. You are a censor not an admin. You are not fit to be an admin. You should resign. Albatross2147 07:58, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
It was 5 hours after so thats not speedy also on the article page consensus was that its necessary. Gnangarra
