Hi again Gnangarra

Thanks, that is clear re Wikia and Wikipedia differences. I checked over at the DRV guidelines but I could not find an answer to the question: If I do get the article into shape for review, is there any time limit from deletion until when it has to have been put up for review. Meaning, does leaving it a while mean it becomes "out of time" for WP:DRV? And if so, at what point does it become 'too late' for DRV? JeffStryker 17:36, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Protected Pages

Hello, I recently came across a page, Gangrene. It has a double image, one at the top of the page, and one at the bottom. I would've fixed this, but it was a fully-protected page. I was wondering if you could tell me where I should ask an administrator to edit this page, and any others I see later. Best regards, Lεmσηflαsh(t)/(c) 23:19, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Rating articles - newbie questions

I don't want this to sound churlish but I do wonder who rates articles (both in terms of quality and importance) and on what basis. It seems very subjective to me - and I suspect you are going to say it is - but any light you can provide on this would be much appreciated. One of those boxes seems to suddenly appear on the discussion page of a new article and there are rarely any comments in that 'click to see comments' area on the box so you have no idea who put it there and why they applied the rating they did. I find this a bit odd - there is such emphasis on signing other talk/comments but it seems there isn't the same emphasis signing those boxes. I'd also like to know how articles get upgraded in these ratings. And, does it really matter? Thanks Sterry2607 12:56, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice - much clearer now. Another question - is there an easy way to find all that behind-the-scenes Wiki stuff. I tend to find things by poking around but if I want to find something again I've got to try to remember how I got to it the previous time. Sterry2607 00:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Again thanks - and yes, I have been doing a lot of just that (copying and pasting formatting ideas etc from other pages)! It seems to be an easier way to learn than following written instructions. Sterry2607 07:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello Gnangarra,

I saw that you are offering adoption. I would like to be adopted. I am new to Wikipedia; I made an account a while ago but never used it until now. I do need some help. Contact me at my talk page (I don't know how to do shortcuts). My former username is 71.172.145.97 and now I am User:Whatdaheck4444 Talk to you later!!!

I'd like to be adopted too, if you have the time. I was born in Perth, moved to Brisbane when I was four, currently live in Townsville, North Queensland. I am a lemon 08:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Ah, SatuSuro my friend, we need to get you set up with AWB, so that you learn the great secret: when someone who is AWBing receives a message on their talk page, AWB stubbornly refuses to do a thing until the message has been read.

GR

Hi, I just noticed you removed protection from GR. At the moment, there is a problem with WP that user contributions are not being recorded. Could you restore protection until this is resolved? Thanks Geometry guy 00:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. I hope it will be very temporary! Geometry guy 01:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I believe that this problem is resolved. Please remove the protection and keep it off. I really want to be done with user:SteakNShake, and to achieve that I need a history of disruption. I have been through this before. It won't take that long before SteakNShake is blocked and/or banned. --EMS | Talk 13:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Please explain more fully

I am hoping you can explain more fully the reasoning behind your decision to close Jabir al Qahtani as delete.

I'd also like to ask you to move the deleted article to my User space.

I've got to tell you the history of attempts to delete articles related to Guantanamo contains a lot of fishy stuff. Half of the nominators turned out to be sockpuppets -- people with no respect for intellectual honesty or the integrity of the wikipedia.

Several other closing admins closed the discussions in ways I didn't understand. User:JIP and User:Mailer Diablo closed: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Hisham Sliti and Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Ibrahim Daif Allah Neman Al Sehli as no consensus. I don't understand their concluding decision. I don't understand yours. But I am pretty clear that their interpretation and yours are incompatible.

Adoption-type dealie

Hi there... I've been thinking about trying out adoption for a while, and decided it'd probably worth having a shot. Sometimes I'm not sure what to do or how to do it, so having someone to ask would be great. I decided to ask you 'cos I saw you're from Australia too (I'm Victorian).
Er, I usually just go around correcting mistakes and reverting vandalism and the like, but I'm trying to slowly move up to some bigger edits and get used to that too. I just had my first real conflict (as you can see on my userpage / talk page), and I'm not sure exactly what to do about it...
Thanks if you can offer any help, but it's okay if you can't!

Haggawagga and Kermanshi

I have every reason to believe that Kermanshi and haggawagga are two sepearate individuals. I have held emailc onversations with each of them and while that is not an assurance, i have a personal strong belief that they are not the same people. In regards to haggawagga He has created valid articles that are not hoaxes. I have EVERY reason to believe this person exists in his memory. Creating an article on this is GOOD FAITH. Just because we cant find it does not mean it is a hoax. Yes, WP:V and WP:OR need to be adhered to which is why the article should be deleted. The fact that he has made an effort in the past to adhere to wikiepdias standards, create valid articles Dorus Rijkers, Pier Gerlofs Donia, Hendrick Jacobszoon Lucifer and several others. This editors only purpose here is NOT to disrut this project which is why I feel an INDEF block is innapropriate. They DO NOT understand which i almsot a year ago was in the same boat. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 01:45, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

See the message on my talk page as to why I believe its the same person contrary to chris's commentSatuSuro 23:55, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

thought - on template options

There's an attention=yes parameter already functional for the {{WP Australia}} template, which doesn't appear to get much use (some articles have been marked as such for ages now). Articles marked as requiring attention are grouped into Category:Australia articles needing attention. The comments feature of the template could be used to indicate why attention is required. I think your review idea has merit, but how much overlap does it have with what's already in place. I'm happy to work towards a workable system whatever comes of the idea. -- Longhair\talk 04:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

You've not heard of Alby Mangels? He was a big name back in the 70's if I recall correctly. He was an adventurer of sorts who featured in several films around that time. Anyway, back on topic, there's no clear usage guidelines on the attention parameter. I generally make use of it when the article is a complete mess, or needs major work to bring it up to par. I guess we could either rename this parameter, or thrash out some clear guidlelines for it and publish them on the main project page. Your not knowing of the attention flag only reinforces my belief that it's an underused option. How useful it is remains to be seen. -- Longhair\talk 04:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
grinning sheepishly - response on User_talk:Longhair Gnangarra
I think the attention parameter would actually be more useful if it generated a worklist, with recommended actions required. Currently it requires editors with nothing better to do to glance over the category and work out why the articles are there. Be bold. I'm on your side and can see where you're heading with this, and I'm sure your ideas are heading towards something a little more effective at weeding out the junk than the processes we currently have.
Now back onto Alby, yes, he did have a female assistant (not Belinda but Judy Green although omitted from her WP entry - noted by Paul foord) who wore very little. I remember going to see World Safari at the cinema. I was only a little tacker then myself, but he did receive major exposure at the time in the media. -- Longhair\talk 05:15, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I like your idea. It further defines the attention aspect of the template in a handy way. All we're missing is a bot to correlate it all into a nice tidy worklist. I'll ponder it for a day and post something to Wikipedia:Bot requests to see if somebody has a bot ready for the job. -- Longhair\talk 09:40, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps from here we thrash out the way forward on a subpage of the project, and implement any parameters that appear to be a postive change? One possible problem I see with so many new parameters being added at once is overcomplicating the template (it's getting quite complex now), leading to editors simply being afraid to use it. Humans like things to remain simple so I've found. We also need to get the documentation up to speed in regards to sub-project assessments, something which has been sadly lacking for some time now. -- Longhair\talk 02:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
I've got to pop out in an hour or so to get some work done around the place. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Australia/Future already exists. We might as well raise the suggested changes there. I'll pop back on later after my duties are complete to throw in my additions. Cheers. -- Longhair\talk 02:54, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

I know it was subject to a one-hour block, but given that he was not editing at the time I blanked the page per the MFD, there was really no point in blocking him for an hour. Now Haggawaga - Oegawagga is comonly considered as a trouble maker but tell me what trouble have I actually ever made? Wich artickles have I created that are Hoaxes like Ocking Jajat Mayaj and melano supriatna? While I'm trying to be serious and make serious artickles these users are messing about and cause I'm associated with them this gives me a bad name. Even though my interests are totally different from H-O, Mrlob and Murlocks interests, have they contributed to artcickles about the Iranian military, Middle Eastern Wars and those kind of things? Have I contributed to artickles about Manga, Frisia (OK, I added a template to a war where Frisia was involved in) or Native Americans? The Honorable Kermanshahi 20:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
