This page contains a collection of my thoughts opinions in relation to the RfA processes.

Is RfA a big deal While all the pages relating to RfA say it isnt meant to be, but how can it not be when a person goes to the community and asks if people trust them. The response they receive does have an affect on how they see the project.

Is RfA a discussion This is one of the times that we can honestly say no, well kinda. As the ultimate decision rests with bureaucrats there is a specified guide of 75% support to get the mop, the bureaucrats do have some ability to exercise discretion below that figure.

[edit] At nomination

Things I dont like to see,
  • nominations by non-admins,
  • recent arbcom cases - last 12 months
  • short answers to the questions
  • challenges to every oppose vote, including those by the supporters. To me its shows a lack of respect for the opinions of others
  • low edit counts
  • recent high volume project tagging
  • single purpose editing -- aka only pokemon related articles,or only school related articles
  • blocks -- less then 6 months since they were completed for non vandalism actions, vandalism blocks 12-18 months.
thing I do like to see
  • co-nominations
  • particpation at afd, rfa
  • vandals warned after reverting
  • no blocks
  • project participation
  • gracious actions, concede a point to resolve an issue
  • no copyright warning
  • wide subject contributions, especially contribs to FA class articles,

[edit] Areas of specific concerns

  • over reaction to events
  • excessively long winded answers to everything
  • quick to argue the point
  • Recall -- if you think we cant trust you how can we. Also recall is voluntary action there is no formal process and the editor choose what the requirements are and can withdraw at any time they wish. making it totally meaningless a best and intentionally deceptive at worst. An editor who chooses to express such an action should state before the RFA starts their recall conditions.
  • Mass AfD, CSD nominations of one subject area, repetative nominations of the same article.
