[edit] Welcome

Hey there, GMan552. Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you enjoy being a Wikipedian and decide to stay! Here are a few good links for newcomers (or "oldcomers" for reference):

By the way, you should sign and date your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. Three tildes (~~~) produces just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!

Great, just what we need around this place... more Feds. :) Cheers. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:18, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

Nah, the "GMan" refers to a variation of my nickname in the military, not to any connection with the FBI. GMan552 06:16, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Welcome! I appreciate your fresh set of eyes to "trim out the fat" in existing gun-related topic articles; Bluing (steel), Kel-Tec P-32, etc.. Your POV should also help balance the editing! Thanks! Yaf 00:03, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for your copy edit work on Topfmine

Good work. I tend to make lots of silly little mistakes when I work on articles. If you have any interest in the area - I'm slowly working on filling out the red links on List of landmines. Welcome to wikipedia. Megapixie 07:37, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Infobox Drive for the Firearms Wikiproject

Hello GMan552. The Firearms Wikiproject is having an infobox drive. The purpose of this is to ensure that most (if not all) of the articles within our scope have the relevant infoboxes. The start date will be May 28th. If you choose to participate, go to our project page and pick an article under the To-do list's Infobox section or look for firearm articles that need an infobox. Before you start editing an article, please cross it out on the list so that we don't have editor's work clashing. The drive will last for five days. If you are interested, please RSVP to LWF. Thank you, the Firearms Wikiproject. --Seed 2.0 09:15, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Designated marksman edits

Hi GMan, I noticed your edits to this article and wanted let you know that you shouldn't remove the Imperial units. I'm not sure what your location is but in North America most people involved with firearms, use and think in terms of yards and grains. So please don't forget to include them in your editing of firearm articles. Also, I notice that you changed a range at the bottom of the article from 600 m to 800 m. Without some type of reference, you run the risk of having this edit reverted; I won't do it, but I've seen it before at M14. At the M14 article, there was an argument over the range of that rifle. The solution of that argument was to have references for the ranges. Just a couple things to keep in mind. Regards —MJCdetroit 03:23, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

MJCDetroit,

Good point, I'll fix the units (if they haven't been already.)

[edit] AFD log

I have removed your post from today's AFD log. Posting on this log is only for articles for deletion discussions, not for proposed deletions. Cheers. Someguy1221 06:01, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Whoops! Sorry - I thought something was wrong when my entry didn't look like the others GMan552 06:18, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suppressor

Hi. On "legal status" paragraph about suppressors in Italy, you've fix my edit (that's good), but you have also change a little the meaning... [1]. You've wrote "law enforcement personnel", in place of my "special forces"...that's not really correct because Police(for example) in Italy cannot use suppressors, but only special forces divisions can do it. This is because of italian laws about weapons are very strict, and weapons with suppressors are categorized as military weapons of wars. Bye!:)--DrugoNOT (talk) 17:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] M-1 Carbine Revert War

The M1 carbine article is currently on lock down. An administrator has requested some discussion from memeber of the Firearms Wikiproject. Can you take a look? Sf46 (talk) 19:11, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Russian AK translations?

Hey, are you sure about the translations of the AK-47 and AKM? Is that direct Russian? Koalorka (talk) 04:51, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

---

OK, I'll admit that I don't speak Russian, but I do know that "Avtomat" translates to "automatic device" or "automatic weapon" (see Fedorov Avtomat as well as this English article by a Russian writer - see the third paragraph from the bottom, which discusses the origin of the term): Fedorov "Avtomat" assault rifle (Russia)

образца translates to "the sample" (model?), although it seems модель would be closer to "model".

года translates to "year" - searching on Google for this term, it frequently appears in Russian either preceding or following the number of a year (for example "2007 года"), so I believe it's a uniquely Russian format, perhaps to specify that the number is a year, and not just a four-digit number. Perhaps it should be left out of the English translation, but I included it in case anyone wondered what the "extra Russian word" was.

Translations were obtained from this site: [2]

Thanks for the note. The users contributions showed nothing but vandalism and deliberate factual errors, so I've blocked him.--Kubigula (talk) 02:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
