Template talk:Globalize/USA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I can see nothing here that is not covered by the more general {{globalize}}. While this template may apply sometimes, I think it also invites the straw man argument that WP:CSB is somehow Anti-American; we've often had to deal with this straw man in the past, so I'd rather not resurrect it. — mark ✎ 12:46, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I asked for this template, so I guess I should answer this one. Having more detailed templates allows bigots/patriots/enthusiasts and counter-bigots/patriots/enthusiasts to balance each other. I could easily imagine some European or Canadian who has more of a motivation to fix the globalize/USA cases, and so would actually get off their back side and fix it. If we also have a globalize/Industrial then that might make it easier for our friends in India, for example, to work specifically on that.
BTW, I really enjoy the graphic: from outside the USA it seems far too often that too many of the USAians think that USA=America and USA=World.

I think this template is patronizing and offensive, and I notice there is no corresponding Template:Globalize/UK or Template:Globalize/Australia. We should at least remove the "USA != world" graphic. Rhobite 21:48, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Well, if it is offensive it should go. I am pleased though that you see the use of such a set of specific templates. If (when) you find any other group of articles that are geography-specific, I would be only too happy to see Template:Globalize/Nepal. I am sure there is room for a Template:Globalize/Germany in the German-language Wikipedia, and I trust our Austrian and Swiss German-speakers to deal with it there. For historical reference, this template is a distant descendant of c2:AmericanCulturalAssumption, from way back on the WikiWikiWeb. -- Earle Martin [t/c] 01:43, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Um...USA has a specific one because the majority of country-centrist articles center on the US due to the number of Americans who edit Wikipedia. klosterdev (talk) 00:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Merge to Globalize
A new {{Globalize}} template has been created here to merge this template, and all other similar Globalization templates, into one. The new template can differentiate between the whole article or just a section and can be used for up to three places. Please discuss the merger of this template with the other localized Globalize templates in this discussion. - LA @ 15:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
