[edit] birthdate

Websites seem to disagree about whether Swanson was born in 1897 or 1899. More have 1899 as the year of birth. Since her official website says 1899, I've fixed the birth date in the article. -- Minesweeper 00:46 4 Jun 2003 (UTC)

She says 1899 in her autobiography, and it's the date on her tombstone [1]. People on here seem to believe the 1897 date simply because it says so on IMDB, but as a regular user of (and contributor to) that site for the past 4 years I can honestly say that it's far from perfect and certainly not as reliable as people seem to think. Could there be a mention of the problem with the dates on the article so there is no confusion as to why WP chose that (the right) date. Lincher 17:32, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Both her death certificate and her gravestone have 1899. Shouldn't that be proof enough to change the date to 1899? Hotwine8 15:59, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't see why it shouldn't. I see no reliable source cited that confirms 1897. Crisso 16:42, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
So it should say 1899, but it was changed somehow back to 1897. See death zertifikate and grave. Also inserted a remark to look first on this discussion page. 58.10.102.228 (talk) 07:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gay Icon Project

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 22:16, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Category: Scientologist?

Just how dedicated was she as a scientologist? I walked into a scientology center in 1971, bought one book, and have been on their mailing list for the past 34 years. I am most definitely not a scientologist, thought their standard procedure is to list people like me as believers. I'd like to see a little proof that she was truly dedicated to scientology. Please note that I have omitted my name stamp while discussing scientology; this is on purpose!

[edit] Pioneer Vegetarian?

Gloria Swanson was very important in the history of vegetarianism and the organic food movement. This should be added to the article. I'll try to find some references... JesseW 20:11, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bitchy vs. unpleasant

I read she could be a bitch; why use "unpleasant", it is too vague an adjective. 216.194.0.8 04:49, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Wasn't there a woman on Strictly Come Dancing called Gloria Swanson?

[edit] Dune?

Many online articles claim that an early attempt to bring Frank Herbert's Dune to film by Alejandro Jodorowsky involved Gloria Swanson. (I figure that she would have been cast as the Bene Gesserit Mother.) Can anyone confirm this?

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SunsetBoulevardDVD.jpg

Image:SunsetBoulevardDVD.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
