Gloucester Rural District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gloucester was a rural district in Gloucestershire from 1894 to 1974. [1]

The district was created in 1894 with the other rural districts. It was enlarged in 1935 when it took in territory from the disbanded East Dean and United Parishes Rural District, Newnham Urban District, Tewkesbury Rural District, Westbury on Severn urban district, and Wheatenhurst Rural District. The district entirely surrounded the county borough of Gloucester.

It was split in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, between the district of Tewkesbury, the district of Stroud and the Forest of Dean district.
