[edit] History
Manchester United fans have been singing this song since the '80's and in the early '90's it became widely popular among opposition supporters to manipulate the words of the song when playing Manchester United to "Who The Fuck Are Man United". Since this point Manchester United supporters have generally adopted the manipulated lyrics of the song themselves in preference to the original lyrics, as an ironic gesture, usually after a goal has been scored against a rival team, or at any time while winning.
Glory Glory Leeds United was also written, additionally other songs, such as the also popular 1983 Manchester United FA Cup final song, have shared the name and some of the lyrics but not the underlying tune.
Manchester United fans claim that this song was adapted in the 60s but with the lines 'In Seventy-Seven it was Docherty, Atkinson will make it Eighty-Three' prove that this song was adapted much later than claimed. It is in fact Tottenham Hotspur that used the song in the Glory Days during the 60s.
[edit] Magazine
"Glory Glory Man United" was also the name of the club's official poster magazine. The magazine was traditionally targeted at kids (the average age of readers is 13 years 2 months)[1], as opposed to the official magazine, "Manchester United" (now "Inside United"), which is targeted at adults aged 16 and up. The magazine was launched in 1994,[1] and released every four weeks, totalling thirteen issues a year.[1]
[edit] Lyrics
Glory, glory, Man United,
Glory, glory, Man United,
Glory, glory, Man United,
As the reds go marching on, on, on.
Just like the Busby Babes in Days gone by
We'll keep the Red Flags flying high
You've got to see yourself from far and wide
You've got to hear the masses sing with pride
United! Man United!
We're the boys in Red and we're on our way to Wem-be-ly
Wem-be-ly! Wem-be-ly!
We're the famous Man United and we're going to Wem-ber-ly
Wem-be-ly! Wem-ber-ly!
We're the famous Man United and we're going to Wem-ber-ly
In Seventy-Seven it was Docherty
Atkinson will make it Eighty-Three
And everyone will know just who we are
They'll be singing 'Que Sera Sera'
United! Man United!
We're the boys in Red and we're on our way to Wem-ber-ly
Wem-be-ly! Wem-ber-ly!
We're the famous Man United and we're going to Wem-ber-ly
Wem-be-ly! Wem-ber-ly!
We're the famous Man United and we're going to Wem-ber-ly
Glory Glory Man United
