[edit] Corporate overview

The Gloria Jean's Coffees business model is a franchising system similar to many fast-food chains. Franchise owners have to pay franchise fees and royalties on their sales as well as operating costs.[1]

The core product and sales mix vary greatly between the US market and others. In America, the franchise sells a variety of flavoured coffee beans and products, whereas in Australia, Gloria Jean’s Coffees is known for its signature range of hot and cold coffee drinks including traditional espresso, blends and whole bean coffees (as well as flavoured beans), specialty teas, and pastries and coffee accessories.

[edit] Advertising campaigns

In 2006, Gloria Jean's Coffees in the United States released a huge billboard, TV, and radio advertisement campaign, which targeted the younger 18-25 audience.

Gloria Jean's Coffees US is well known for its sponsorship in American sports. It has formula windsurfing number one Allison Shreeve as its spokesperson for Gloria Jean's Coffees in the US.

[edit] Controversies

Gloria Jean's Coffees has been said to be a major sponsor of Hillsong Church.

Gloria Jean's Coffees is an Australian Owned Company, headed by Jireh International. [2] Nabi Saleh and Peter Irvine are prominent, active members of Hillsong Church.[3]

Gloria Jean's Coffees does sponsor many Hillsong-related initiatives such as Mercy Ministries, a pro-life charity that aims to help women who are pregnant, have drug issues, or eating disorders.[4][5] "Gloria Jean’s Coffees chose to support Mercy Ministries because there is a need in Australia for a dedicated charity that helps women with these difficult issues," said Peter Irvine, Co-Founder of Gloria Jean's Coffees"[6] Gloria Jean's Coffees has stated it is not intending to change its funding arrangements of Mercy Ministries, despite recent allegations that Mercy Ministries removes its charges from proven medical therapies and puts them in the hands of amateur counselors who employ techniques including exorcisms.[7]
