Global Indian International School Singapore (GIIS) is an international school in Singapore with three campuses - Queenstown, East Coast and Balestier. The school thrives on Singapore's fast growing Indian expatriate community.
[edit] History and Growth
It was the first Indian international school in Singapore and was originally known as the Indian Central School (ICS) (2002). The present name, a re-branding emphasizing "Global Indian" came into force and GIIS spread its wings outside Singapore, matching the new "Global" branding. GIIS now also has branches in Malaysia, New Zealand, Japan , Thailand etc
The school's original campus (2002) in Singapore was at Mount Sophia (former campus of Methodist Girls' School and the Australian International School Singapore). Due to enthusiastic support from expat Indian parents, the school soon outgrew the facilities available at Mount Sophia. In 2005, it moved to Queenstown (former campus of Mei Chin Secondary School and Mei Chin Primary School). A second campus in Singapore was opened in 2006 on the East Coast at Siglap. A third campus (Primary only) came into operation at Balestier in 2008.
