The Gloamgloazer is a character in the book series, The Edge Chronicles.
The Gloamgloazer is an Edge fairy-tale that had come to life when Linius Pallitax (Maris's father, and later Twig Verginix's Grandfather) experiments with the creation of life in the middle of the rock Old Sanctaphrax was set on. Unknowingly at the time, and utterly unwillingly, he creates a shape-shifter that he finds spent its time turning itselt into every picture of another being it saw. The thing, he soon realized, was a shape-shifter. . . And basically that is what the gloamgloazer is, a shape shifter and a deceiver. But clueless to the fact that the beast was in fact a gloamgloazer, Quintinius Verginix (Twig's future father) releases it into the open; and he realised what he had done too late to stop it, despite his attempts. That happened in the flash-back book, "The Curse of the Gloamgloazer", which is the fourth book. In the first book, "Beyond the Deepwoods" we meet Twig Verginix, and he, at the end of that book, is almost lured off the Edge by the gloamgloazer. For, that is what the Gloamgloazer has dedicated its life to doing; to coaxing lost travellers off the Edge and into the black abyss below. The description of the gloamgloazer, and the various pictures in the books, indicate that the Gloamgloazer has two twisted horns growing from either side of his scalp, and scabs and scarred burns all over his face from when Quintinius tried to destroy him in the fourth book. The gloamgloazer also wears long lanky black robes; and lives in the Edgelands, where Twig almost fell to his fate.
