The school opened in 1962 and the original accommodation, which has been enhanced by a substantial building programme of extension, reconstruction and renovation completed in 1982, provides the school with full, modern facilities within one compact site. These facilities include a well equipped Library and Information Centre; a games hall, gymnasiums, fitness suite, drama studio, swimming pool and extensive playing fields; a purpose built suite of music rooms and eight computer rooms.

Curriculum levels are split into Standard Grade (Foundation, General & Credit), Higher Still (Intermediate 1 & Intermediate 2 & Higher & Advanced Higher). Availability depends on subject.
