Glenny Drive Apartments
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Glenny Drive Apartments (Also known as Kensington Heights) were a Buffalo, New York, public housing project built in the 1950s during the U.S. public housing fad of the 1950s and early 1960s; it was abandoned in 1981. Currently, it is Buffalo's only abandoned public housing development. Located next to the Kensington Expressway (NY-33), the six 7-story buildings, complete with smashed windows and excessive overgrowth, are quite an ugly sight today. The Buffalo Municipal Hosing Authority's official explanation for the closing of the projects was because they lost federal funding for the maintenance of the buildings. In March 2007, $5,000,000 was granted to build senior housing on the site, with the demolition of the six buildings beginning in Fall.
