Glenn Worf is one of the premier Nashville session bassists. He was born in Dayton, Ohio but grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and has concentrated on the bass guitar since he was thirteen. He majored in music at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. [1]. Inevitably his talents forced him to abandon the local scene and move to Nashville and the opportunities offered by Music City, USA. In addition to his studio work he performs regularly in and around Nashville with the likes of Mike Henderson and Kevin Welch.

Over the years he has brought his talents to many recordings including: Kenny Rogers, Tammy Wynette, Toby Keith, Billy Ray Cyrus, John Michael Montgomery, Martina McBride, The Mavericks, Aaron Neville, Bob Seger, Marty Robbins, Mark Knopfler, Bryan Adams, Larry Carlton, Lonnie Mack. [2]

Veteran producer Don Was, when asked by Bass Player Magazine about the bass players he prefers to hire, said "there's a guy in Nashville named Glenn Worf who plays an upright through an Ampeg B-18, and it's an ungodly sound" [3]

International superstar Mark Knopfler, one of rock's most respected guitarists since the late 1970s, walked into Bluebird Cafe one night and found his bass player. "I walked right in, and Glenn Worf was backing up Kevin Welch," Knopfler said. "I knew with Glenn straight away, 'Now this here is bass playing.' " [4]

Since 1996 Glenn has been recording and touring with Mark Knopfler, while still enjoying the freedom of playing and recording back home. Mark has made extensive use of Glenn's wide ranging talent; from his ability to play the hard driving bass guitar of rock to the wonderful subtlety of his "large instrument"[5], the upright string bass. The rhythm section of Glenn Worf together with Danny Cummings on drums and percussion impart the depth and atmosphere required of many of Knopfler's compositions.
