Glenn "Abe" Martin was the fifth head football coach for the Southern Illinois Salukis in Carbondale, Illinois and he held that position for ten seasons, from 1939 until 1949. His overall coaching record at SIU was 31 wins, 42 losses, and 5 ties. This ranks him fourth at SIU in terms of total wins and tenth at SIU in terms of winning percentage. [1]
The baseball field at SIU was named on April 30, 1972 in honor of Glenn "Abe" Martin, who retired in 1971 after 33 years of service, including 19 as head baseball coach.[2]
