Glendi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glendi is an annual Greek festival in Adelaide that is held over two days on a weekend in March. It is one of Australia's largest multiculural festivals.

Glendi is the major project of the Lions Club of Adelaide Hellenic. It raises money for a variety of charities and also provides an opportunity for the various local Greek brotherhoods, associations and clubs to raise money for their benefit.

Glendi also promotes Greek culture by showcasing the history, art, dancing and food of Greece. Music is performed by local, interstate and international artists. Art pieces and historical artefacts are displayed in the Cultural Marquee. Food is available from all regions of Greece.

Glendi is also the Greek word for ‘party’ and is the major fund-raiser for St. Seraphim of Sarov Orthodox Church in Santa Rosa, California. The entire parish works together at this fund-raiser to celebrate their unity in diversity. Thousands of visitors come to the grounds the third weekend each September to eat, dance and relax. Voted “Best Way to Eat Around the World” by the Sonoma County Independent.
