[edit] New Features
The John Peel stage will double in size and have a screen outside of it to watch bands.[2]
There will be a new Shangri-La area that will replace the Lost Vagueness area. It will contain 12 stages and will be open until 6am on the Saturday and Sunday nights.[3]
Festival-goers will be provided with 10 free biodegradable tent pegs, to prevent damage to cows.[4]
The festival site will expand by 40-50 acres.[5]
[edit] Ticket Sales
The ticket registration system that was established in 2007 will continue in 2008 having won numerous awards, including Best Innovation at the 2007 UK Festival Awards [6]. Registration was available throughout February, online and from Millets camping stores, and closed on 14th March. [7] However, due to tickets not selling out, registration for the festival was re-opened at 4pm on Tuesday April 8th, allowing those who hadn't previously registered to purchase tickets.[8]
In July 2007 organiser Michael Eavis stated that 40% of tickets for the upcoming festival will be sold via telephone in order to attract more teenagers to the event. Eavis was quoted as saying that the sale of tickets mainly on-line resulted in 2007's festival-goers being "Too middle aged and respectable".[9]
Tickets sales have not been as numerous as previous years[10], after tickets went public on April 6, only 100,000 were purchased, prompting Eavis to re-open registration two days later. Last year, the entire allocation of 137,500 tickets sold out in about two hours. There are a number of theories as to why this lapse in ticket sales has occurred but the largest theory is people have been put off due to the inclusion of Hip Hop artist Jay Z. Michael Eavis disputes this[11], claiming that the lapse in ticket sales is due to a long run of poor weather conditions during the festival.
