Gladness Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gladness Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland for four-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at the Curragh in April.

It is named in honour of the Irish trained racehorse Gladness, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Ebor Handicap in 1958. It was promoted to Group 3 status in 1987 having been previously classed as a Listed race.

Prior to 2004 three-year-olds were eligible to run in the race, with notable past winners including Nijinsky (1970), and El Gran Senor (1984).
