[edit] Wrote Some New Articles
Hi, I'm the guy who made some changes to the Bragg article a few months back and now I'm a wikipedia user. Anyway I recently had the time to write some new articles on Andrew Hickenlooper and John S, Bowen and thought I'd let you know. I also added to the W.H.L. Wallace and Benjamin Prentiss articles. --Gittes 20:15, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi and welcome. I did some formatting on your two new articles. You picked two guys I knew nothing about. One thing I would ask is that you reevaluate your References and restrict entries in that section to be the ones you actually consulted in writing the article. Those that you did not should go into Further reading. (Or, if it is a link rather than a book, into External links.) I have no way of knowing which ones you actually used. - Thanks for the formatting. I consulted all the books I referenced except for the three volume Vicksburg work. I'll take your advice next time. --Gittes 19:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gershom Mott
I recently wrote a new article on Gershom Mott. I also prepared a piece on James B. Ricketts but I see it is now an Appelton encyclopedia article. How can I include my atricle with the Appleton information? Gittes
- I am always available to help, but I am sorry to say that I do not understand your question. Your Ricketts article cites the Appleton public domain encyclopedia as a reference. What more are you trying to accomplish? If you would prefer to engage in a more timely dialogue, contact me via e-mail (see the yellow banner on my talk page). Hal Jespersen 15:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nice articles, BTW. I tweaked a little for you. On Mott, I will look up his place of death when I get home. One web source said NYC, but it also had a different date (May 29). Hal Jespersen 16:00, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

- I wrote a seperate Ricketts article on my computer first, not the one presently on wikipedia. I'm contacting the other writer presently. I somehow thought the article had been put in place by a non user. Thanks for the picture of Mott. Gittes
[edit] James B. Ricketts
Feel free to edit the article on Civil War general James B. Ricketts, merging your information with what I wrote. Ricketts was an important officer at Bull Run, then was relatively obscure until late in the war when he reemerged as a favorite of Ulysses S. Grant. Scott Mingus 21:31, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for writing many new articles on officers like C.W. Field. I was doing the same but a slower pace. If you like my additions to the Ricketts articles I'll be glad to add to any of your existing articles on the Civil War, such as those you feel need more substance. I also recently wrote an article for Gershom Mott, a pasted ones on John S. Bowen and Andrew Hickenlooper so check them out if you wish. Gittes
- I have written several dozen Civil War articles, but there are hundreds and hundreds more to tackle. I look for red links in existing articles, then go through my reference materials to determine if I have enough material for an encylopedia article. I try to not make them terribly long, and try to focus on key events, but there's more that could be added over time. I will look at the Gershom Mott article. By the way, I did make some changes to your edits on Ricketts (for example, division is never capitalized unless it is in conjunction with the formal name, such as Rodes' Division or First Division; the same holds true for brigade and corps). There is a style guide that I follow at User:Hlj/CWediting which is pretty good. Keep the articles coming! Nice work. Scott Mingus 21:21, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll be starting school again soon so I'll only be doing some on again off again work on wikipedia. I'll check more of your articles when I can. Thanks for the links and advice. Good luck with the articles. Gittes
