Gitant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Gitant is a type of coffee mug with a circular handle. It was designed by the French artist Jean-Jacques Gitante, making a quiet stir in the mug industry back in 1976. Although praised by critics, it was unpopular amongst consumers because of the awkward way in which it must be held, and so very few were produced.

However, the Gitant has been growing in appreciation amongst mug connoisseurs over the years. A rare first batch "duck egg blue" Gitant recently sold for $12,000 in a Tennessee auction house, purchased by Clive Trewinnick, mug-tycoon of TreMugs fame.
